1 Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of - Services (Temporary position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 40,000 students and 4,000 employees in 90 schools and other sites. The Department of Facility Services requires an to repair, install, maintain and perform alterations of a variety of electrical equipment within district sites in the Edmonton area. Responsibilities include testing, repairing and maintaining power distribution, UPS, building automation, security and fire alarm systems. The job is also responsible for documenting electrical systems, preparing estimates, ordering materials and maintaining a maintenance material inventory. Work involves procedures of a technical nature and uses hand/power tools and various sophisticated test equipment. The job works independently with minimal supervision or as part of various teams in completing projects and activities. Assignments vary considerably depending on the unit served and the incumbent must demonstrate a complete understanding of the overall activities served. This is a one year, temporary, full-time (40 hrs. /week) position with a salary of $39.59 per hour as per current AUPE Collective Agreement. Position to commence as soon as possible. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Participate as a member of a project planning and design team, utilize independent judgement and input from team members; Assist in development of preventive maintenance program and assess existing electrical system for modernization and/or repairs; Diagnose operating faults and determine the extent of repairs required, using test equipment, trade manuals and wiring diagrams to select the most efficient method to complete the work; Assist in the inspection of the electrical work performed by contractors using reference to trade manuals, specifications, wiring instructions and the provincial electrical code to support findings. Qualifications: High School, plus a current valid Journeyman trade certificate; Possession of a current Fire Alarm Verification Certificate; Several years recently related experience with proven troubleshooting techniques and the ability to work with minimal service information; Knowledge of the Alberta Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety regulations and legislation including working in confined spaces; Working knowledge of Microsoft programs Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet is required; Ability to read blueprints, electrical wiring diagrams and schematics; Strong problem solving and analytical skills; Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and good judgment when dealing with other trades, school principals, teachers, students, co-workers and the general public; Fluency in the English language including both oral and written communication skills is mandatory; A valid Class 5 driver s license and the ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton; Ability to provide a clean driver s abstract upon hire and as requested; Possession of a full kit of recognized set of basic hand tools. The job repairs, installs, maintains and performs alterations of a variety of electrical equipment within district sites in the Edmonton area. Responsibilities include testing, repairing and maintaining power distribution, UPS, building automation, security and fire alarm systems. The Job is also responsible for documenting electrical systems, preparing estimates, ordering materials and maintaining a maintenance material inventory. Responsibilities require a qualified Journeyman trade certificate along with several years of recent related experience. Some jobs in this class may entail supervision and may also train apprentices and new employees. In these cases, the employee must achieve smooth workflow by delegating assignments and explaining procedures. Work is performed within the district/department policies and procedures and is guided by electrical building codes and regulations, construction and maintenance standards and principles and those established by the department. Work is completed in compliance with the Alberta Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety (OH & S) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and guidelines and the district s goals and objectives. There is considerable discretion exercised by the incumbent in the performance of its regular duties. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is. Project Management Participate as a member of a project planning and design team, utilize independent judgement and input from team members Install, inspect, troubleshoot, service, repair and maintain many different brands of electrical equipment and systems Assemble, install, test and connect motors, fixtures, control equipment and wire systems using manuals, wiring diagrams and hand tools July

3 Maintain daily work records and assist the Area Supervisor in estimating and compiling yearly work requirements Handle inventory control including purchasing, receiving, shipping and categorizing supplies, materials and equipment Assist department staff with a variety of projects and provide cover-off during absences Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor 2. and repairs Assist in development of preventive maintenance program and assess existing electrical system for modernization and/or repairs Diagnose operating faults and determine the extent of repairs required, using test equipment, trade manuals and wiring diagrams to select the most efficient method to complete the work Maintain and use electrical test instruments and calibrators to fault find electrical systems Replace defective wiring, control equipment and motor components Complete repairs and alterations to fire alarm systems as required Assist in the inspection of the electrical work performed by contractors using reference to trade manuals, specifications, wiring instructions and the provincial electrical code to support findings Identify problems through on-site inspections and report to supervisor may determine alternatives for corrective action and present recommendations to supervisor for resolution Assist in the cleanup of worksites Ensure tools and equipment are operating properly and report those that are not Ensure worksites are clean and maintained within safety standards 3. Building security Ensure materials and tools are safely operated and stored at all times Secure building as required depending on worksite requirements JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES and SKILLS: Provide a list of the most important knowledge factors, skills and abilities including knowledge about practical procedures, specialized techniques, etc.; analytical and conceptual skills and abilities; and skills needed for direct interaction with others, not only diplomas and degrees.
