New Approaches to Performance Management Programs Joralyn Zaballero, Jouta Performance Group Participants will hear about a new approach to performance based management program for employees. The more traditional approach is reviewing and evaluating past performance; the new approach does a backward look but concentrates more on future performance and working collaboratively with staff on goal setting and working on specific skills and professional development. Creating a Competency Based Mentoring program for Managers and Supervisors John Stott, Talent C What does a good mentoring program look like, what are the components and how do you get a program back on track that has run into a number of roadblocks? And how do you identify roadblocks? John will guide you through the mentoring program at APTN where he was instrumental in helping managers and supervisors maintain an engaging mentoring program. 3. Records Management Does your System Need an Overhaul? Andrew Geider, Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) Andrew Geider, a records expert with over 20 years of records management experience will be reviewing how to establish a consistent classification system for filing, and discuss how long to keep records, called the retention schedule. Andrew will expand on risks and tangible benefits of records management. Policies and standards, and the life cycle of a record will round out the conversation. 12:00 pm 1:30 pm 3:00 pm The 13th Annual Best Practices Awards Luncheon First Nations Human Resource Workshops: (Repeat of the morning sessions) Human Rights in the First Nations Workplace Scott McCann, Harris & Co. There are some tough questions to consider when talking about human rights in the workplace. What constitutes undue hardship, what is the employer s duty to inquire and accommodate? What jurisdictional issues need to be considered and what are the legal obligations related to an employee s addictions? What you need to know! Cori Maedel, Jouta Performance Group and Jennifer Wiegele, Miller Titerle Landmark decision from the Supreme Court of Canada confirms that Canada Labour Code provides union-like protection to many federally regulated employees. The Supreme Court s recent decision represents a major shift in favour of employees and will have a significant effect on the management and operation of federally-regulated workplaces for federal employers. We will address the both the legal and HR implications of this decision. 10:15 am Refreshment Break and Exhibit Booths 10:30 am Worksafe BC s legislation on Bullying & Harassment and What Employers Need to Know Tim Ambrus, Employers Advisors Office In 2013, Worksafe BC introduced legislation and policies on bullying. The policies define what bullying and harassment are and are not. It also explains the duties of employers, workers, and supervisors to prevent and address this type of behavior.
