Menon Department of Management and Commerce, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Mysuru, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India Arathy K Department of Education, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, India ABSTRACT A person can work more confidently, efficiently and effectively only when he or she has more knowledge regarding their work then this will help them to perform well. The objectives of the paper are to know the level of knowledge management and performance management among construction employees and to know the correlation among knowledge and performance management among employees of construction industry with reference to Mysore city. The sample selected for the study is employees of construction industry; sample size is 75.The tools used for collecting data are questionnaire on knowledge management and questionnaire on performance management. The method of study is survey and simple random sampling technique is used. The statistical techniques used are descriptive statistic and correlation. The findings of the study have revealed that there is high level of correlation among knowledge and performance management. It means one who has more knowledge in one particular topic will help the person who don t have much knowledge or information in same topic or field. 2 Can Knowledge Management be Obverse to Performance Management in Construction Industries with Special Reference to Mysore City on, everyone who is working in construction industry will not be aware of those technologies, in such situation the person who knows about that technologies can help others by sharing information or how to use?. Knowledge Management is not only concentrating on the knowledge of the particular person, but for whole organization. In construction industry they mainly deal with software s in various fields they need knowledge which helps for the development of industry. Each and every person working in construction industry, if they have more knowledge then there will be betterment in their work and the performance of them will be efficient, which leads to enhance the performance management system. For this the interest and willingness of the employees and management is more important. If co-operation among the employees and management is good then the performance of management will also be good. Developing knowledge and performance will help the industry to grow smoother. There are many reasons for the betterment of construction industry which includes both knowledge and performance management such as facilities provided by the company, proper planning, objectives should be there, interest of the employees, payment of the employees, use of new technologies, updating the knowledge of employees and the management, motivation given to the employees, monitoring should be done perfectly by the employment, Seminars, Workshops can be done with the help of experts, efficient management of time, proper decision should be taken by the management, data should be stored properly. There are five components which come under knowledge management and leads to performance management. Knowledge storing can be done in the form of documents, diagrams, file, questioning, can retain for a longer period. Knowledge sharing can happen in many ways like discussion, seminar, workshops, which helps in understanding and for improvement. Knowledge application can be done in taking decisions and also they can perform task based on instructions. Knowledge organization will help in classification or concise the information which makes the work of employees easier. Knowledge capture is like getting information in the form of asking questions, preparing tools and through observation. Knowledge acquisition means its acquiring knowledge in different ways, this makes the employee to perform better and show their efficient performance towards company. Hence, knowledge management leads to performance management. Zack, Mckeen, singh (2009), Knowledge management and organizational performance: an exploratory analysis. The findings were, Knowledge Management practices showed a straight link with intervening degree of organizational achievement and also a financial accomplishment. 2. NEED OF THE STUDY The person who is well versed in their particular field with knowledge can show their effective performance. There are various processes or steps under knowledge management which leads to performance management. The process includes knowledge storing; they can store knowledge in the form of documents, reports, task, collecting information, etc this lead to the next process called as knowledge sharing where transformation of knowledge happens from one to the other or from one source to the other like seminar, training, workshop, etc all these will help them in getting proper instruction and taking proper decision, this process is known as knowledge application, here the learning may or may not happen according to the interest of employees. Knowledge organization helps to concise the information. The knowledge can be captured in the form of interview, questionnaire etc so that more information can be collected. Rules should be known and then it should be used and executed in a proper manner. All these process leads to performance management editor@iaeme.com

3 Rethy B. Menon, Arathy K 3. LITERATUREREVIEW Carlucci and Schiuma (2004) made an attempt to study on Managing Knowledge assets for business performance improvement. The objectives of the study were to identity intellectual capital value drivers, selecting and managing knowledge. The study was done in case study method. The tools used is hand written documents, reporting statements in natural language, cause effects diagrams, as well as photographs. The findings of the study was, there is no direct connection between knowledge management and business performance but there was a preference in maintaining composite relationship based on different theories. El Farr (2007) conducted a study on Linking performance appraisal to knowledge management activities in the management consultancy sector in the UK. The objective of the study is to know about the understanding of the performance appraisal system and the knowledge management activities that are found in the appraisals. The sample selected was in organization, the sample size is 323. The study was one in survey method. The tool used for data collection is questionnaire. The statistical analysis techniques include percentage analysis. The findings of the study say that the performance of individual is supported by the knowledge management activities. Lundvall and Nielsen (2007) studied on Knowledge Management and Innovation Performance. The objective was to know why the construction of training average management be a main component of knowledge management. The sample selected were private sector firm ant number of sample size was 25. The study was done according to survey method. The findings were revealed that the analysis shows the firms that introducing several organizational practices leads the learning organization to be more innovative than the any firms. Zhou (2011) conducted The study on Knowledge Management Performance Evaluation using Neural Network. The objectives were to know the organisation level of army and also know about the technology, evaluation, leadership among military people. The sample selected was on military people. The study was done in experimental method. The findings of the study revealed that by Knowledge Management, they are using the knowledge resources of army inside and outside which helps in the improvement of battle effectiveness level. Schiuma (2012) conducted a study on Managing knowledge for Business Performance Improvement. The objective was to introduce the focus of the special issue like planning, design, assessment, knowledge resources and process. The sample were selected from the conference, data was collected in the form of questionnaire. The findings of the study were to recognize the knowledge and translate all knowledge into business to receive better business outcomes for the improvement of performance. Grampaoli,Gambott,Bontis(2017) took initiative to study on Knowledge Management, Problem solving and performance in top Italian firms.the objectives were to test the relation between Knowledge Management practices, problem solving processes and organizational performance. The sample selected was leading Italian companies and number of sample size was 112. The study was based on partial least square method. The findings disclosed that the strong connection between Knowledge Management practices and problem solving has a direct impact on both organizational and financial performance, whereas problem solving speed has a direct effect only on financial performance. Rethy,Sahana(2018) conducted a study on Enhancing sustainable employees performance of engineers working as faculties in engineerimg colleges of mysore city through knowledge management practices. The objectives of the study was to find out the level of perception on knowledge management and employee performance within college teachers of engineering colleges in mysore city, to find out the significant difference of knowledge editor@iaeme.com

Survey method is used with simple random sampling techniques. The sample selected was 100 engineering college teachers. Data collected was by using the tool which includes knowledge management scale and employee performance scale.mean,standard deviation, t-test, correlation are the statistical techniques used in this study. The study reveals that there is positive relation between knowledge management and employee performance. 4. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Knowledge management is a weapon for improving performance management. Thus the study is entitled as CAN KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT BE OBVERSE OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT IN IT SECTOR WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO MYSORE CITY 5. DEFINITION Knowledge Management is the discipline of enabling individuals, teams and entire organizations to collectively and systematically create, share and apply knowledge, to better achieve their objectives. (Ron Young-1997) Performance Management is the systematic process by which the department of commerce involves its employees, individuals and members of a group, in improving organizational effectiveness in the accomplishment of agency mission and goals. (Human Resource Management-2010). 6. OBJECTIVES To know the level of knowledge management within the construction industry employees with reference to the Mysore city. To know the performance management level of the employees in construction industry with reference to the Mysore city. To know the correlation among the knowledge management and performance management among construction industry employees with reference to the Mysore city. 7. HYPOTHESIS There exists a high level of knowledge management among construction industry employees with reference to Mysore city. There exists a high level of performance management among construction industry employees with reference to Mysore city. There exists a positive relationship between knowledge management and performance management among construction industry employees with reference to Mysore city. 8. METHODOLOGY Method A survey method has been used to find out the correlation among knowledge management and performance management of employees in construction industry with reference to Mysore city editor@iaeme.com

5 Rethy B. Menon, Arathy K Sample The size of sample used for the study is 75 construction industry employees from four construction industry of Mysore city. Sampling Technique Simple random sampling technique is used for collecting data from the employees of construction industry. Tools Used 1. Questionnaire on knowledge management (Rethy, Arathy(2018)) This is a 5 point likert type questionnaire which includes strongly agree, agree, uncertain, disagree and strongly disagree. 25 items are included in the questionnaire. Components included in the questionnaire are capturing, processing, application, organization, sharing, and transformation, structuring, identifying of knowledge. 2. Questionnaire on performance management (Rethy, Arathy(2018)) The questionnaire consists of 25 items. The components included in the preparation of questionnaire are performance, projects, planning, organizing, tasks, hindrances, training, assessment, etc. 9. ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION A grading table has done to know the level of knowledge management among the people working in construction industry with special reference to Mysore city. The mean and standard deviation obtained is compared with this grading table. If the mean scores ranges from 1-41 is at low level, is at moderate level and is at high level. SUGGESTIONS To make the performance of management efficient and for the smooth running of the company there must be proper objectives, plan and the decision should be taken properly by the management and employees must have knowledge about the organization. The performance of the employees can be made effective when they make use of knowledge which they have in the particular field.they can enhance the knowledge by updating their knowledge with the current changes especially with the newly introduced software like software-as-a-service, Client, proprietary,etc.., this can happen only through knowledge sharing. Training, project work, seminars and workshops can be given for the employees and the division of work can be done in order to avoid confusions and work load. For the betterment of the company, hardworking and sincerity are one of the main components, for that the company can appoint qualified people especially who have completed courses related with information technology,who have work experience, and also who are capable enough in handling situations and ready to work with full interest and confidence. The management can motivate the work of employees by giving allowances and by increasing their salary, so that the employees will work with full dedication The work of the employees should be monitored frequently by the supervisor or the manager and the instruction should be given to the employees properly. Suggestion from the employees also should be considered by the management. Knowledge storing can also be done in the form of report writing, documents, computer technologies, etc this make the work of employees easier. So that, the clarifications can be cleared by referring those reports and also it will be helping for updating the knowledge and for future reference. 10. FINDINGS Through the study, the findings has been disclosed that, there is high level of knowledge management and high level of performance management among construction industry employees with special reference to Mysore city and also there is positive correlation among knowledge management and performance management with special reference to Mysore city editor@iaeme.com

7 Rethy B. Menon, Arathy K 11. TENABILITY OF HYPOTHESIS The first 2 hypothesis are accepted since there exists a high level of Knowledge management and performance management. The third hypothesis which says there exist a positive correlation which is also completely accepted as the p value shows at 0.01 level of significant 12. CONCLUSIONS Knowledge plays an important role in our day to day life especially when it comes to job. When a person have sufficient knowledge, if he/she can maintain and solve problems then they will show their better performance in their career and life. Through this research there is correlation among the knowledge and performance management, which is connected to each other. Thus it is clearly understood that without knowledge, efficient performance cannot be shown. To update the knowledge of employees the initiatives should be taken by the management for arranging some programmes. Hence knowledge management system will help employees in easy accessing of information to show their performance.
