1 POSITION DESCRIPTION 1 POSITION DETAILS Position Title: Reports to: Department: Location: Innovation and Ditigal Lead Innovation and Technology / Business Transformation Traralgon Date: October 2018 Document Reference: COR/18/ PURPOSE OF POSITION The is responsible for extracting, transforming, analysing and modelling data in ways that inform operational decision-making across the business. The role will work closely with all workgroups within the business to understand their data and reporting needs, and deliver suitable reports and/or business intelligence solutions. 3 ABOUT GIPPSLAND WATER The incumbent will be expected to adhere to all Gippsland Water policies and procedures, and in doing so, demonstrate our organisational values. 2 About us Gippsland Water is the second largest regional urban water corporation by revenue in Victoria, comprising a diverse, complex and geographically dispersed asset base spread across a 5000 km 2 region which is serviced through an asset base of in excess of $1 billion. We exist to deliver reliable, high-quality water, wastewater and waste recovery services to ensure the economy and liveability of the central Gippsland region. Our service area is diverse in area and needs, from the fast growing region in the west, to the transitioning challenges of the Latrobe Valley to providing water and wastewater services to Victoria s largest industrial water users. There has been significant change throughout the Gippsland region, in particular, the closure of major businesses. While this changing landscape presents many challenges to Gippsland Water, it also highlights the importance of the role Gippsland Water plays in the region, and the role we play in the region s transition. Gippsland Water will continue to focus on: maintaining quality water and wastewater services for our customers at an affordable price our sustainable future and the future of the region, and the role we play in the future. 3 5 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES The primary accountabilities of the will be improving data collection systems and processes, measuring and analysing the data, and making recommendations for improvements including the generation of reports for operational and strategic decisions making. 6 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the business to develop and maintain data models and reports for analysis and decision making. Develop and implement, data collection processes, data analytics and other strategies that optimise statistical efficiency and quality across the business. Support appropriate methodology and tools to enhance business analytical capability. Perform analysis using data in different formats from various platforms. Create new reports or dashboards and implement improvements to existing reports. Investigate reporting errors and resolve queries for users. Assist to identify and drive business process improvements. Provide support in the form of data collection, data analytics, and reporting to the business for any projects/initiatives being undertaken. Contribute to the preparation of divisional reports and the analysis of key performance measures where required. 7 KEY CHALLENGES Gippsland Water is committed to transforming the business to ensure that: Business processes and systems are evaluated and optimised. These decisions will be balanced by a respect for existing systems and processes and will have evolved from a blend of intuitive thinking and factual analysis. This position retains a high degree of autonomy, accountability and responsibility. 9 INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/COMMUNICATIONS To achieve Gippsland Water s strategic customer and business objectives the is required to persuade, convince, and negotiate with both internal and external parties, senior managers and peers in order to improve business processes. Key positions that the deals with both externally and internally are: External Communications Customers, contractors, consultants, other Water Corporations, and the general public. Internal Communications Senior Managers, General Managers, and employees. 10 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL & DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Essential: Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets Well-developed interpersonal skills incorporating excellent relationship and communication skills to enhance the ability to work effectively with people at all levels, within and outside of Gippsland Water Ability to analyse problems, assess a complex range of solutions and implement innovative solutions that support the organisations priorities and objectives Experience in the development of data models utilising software such as Microsoft Excel or other Business Intelligence platforms Desirable: Demonstrable commitment to customer service delivery An ability to impart skills and knowledge to enable the development of others Proven abilities with regard to benchmarking and process improvement techniques, to help drive process efficiencies. Demonstrable knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure and related services Page 4 of 5

5 Experience in report development (e.g. Crystal Reports, SSRS), and working with data in relational databases (e.g. SQL) Demonstrated written communication skills in developing strategy, reporting, policy and procedural documents 11 SELECTION CRITERIA Experience as a business analyst within a data and business intelligence role. Sound understanding of process analysis, data modelling, mapping and related technology solutions. Highly developed communication skills including evidence of requirements gathering to deliver information and insights for decision making. Detailed knowledge of data management and data governance processes. Demonstrated technical expertise with data, reporting and business intelligence solutions including transactional reporting.
