2 Division profile: The Division is responsible for providing the Government with policy and advice in all aspects of sport, recreation, physical activity and community development. The Division is also responsible for delivering programs and activities to the community. The Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) is responsible for the delivery of programs to support the development of high performance athletes. The TIS has two bases, one in the North and one in the South of Tasmania. This role will be based at the Silverdome Facility in the North of Tasmania (Launceston). This role will require the occupant to work extended hours, evenings and weekends as required. Position objective: The Rowing Coach is responsible for contributing to the successful delivery of the Tasmanian State Pathway Program (TSPP) including the design and implementation of comprehensive training and competition programs for identified potential high performance rowers. Duties: 1. Develop and implement a Talent Squad (TS) program as an integral component of the TSPP. 2. Coach and co-ordinate training programs for TS athletes and TIS NTC Development Squad athletes as required. 3. Support the TIS Head Rowing Coach with Coaching and co-ordinating training programs for TIS NTC Development Squad athletes as required. 4. Contribute to the planning and utilisation of resources, facilities, consultancies and budgets for the TSPP. 5. Utilise appropriate performance services for development of athletes in the TSSP rowing program. 6. Liaise with relevant Rowing Tasmania personnel in relation to selection and integration of state teams and crews. 7. Assist with Talent ID, testing and club integration activities in conjunction with relevant Rowing Tasmania personnel. 8. Provide strategic coaching advice to develop and support state level and club coaches, including advice on skill and fitness requirements and coaching practices. 9. Provide support to Rowing Australia s national teams, as agreed between RA s Deputy Performance Director and the TIS.

3 Level of responsibility: The Rowing Coach is responsible for the development of athletes within the TSPP in consultation with the Head Rowing Coach. The Rowing Coach is expected to set work priorities and exercise initiative and judgement to effectively achieve the outcomes of the position. Regular liaison is required with Rowing Tasmania and rowing club personnel. Reporting structure: The occupant is expected to work with general technical direction from the TIS Head Rowing Coach and supervision from the Manager, Sports Programs in achieving the objectives of the position. The occupant will be required to use initiative and make independent judgements on matters concerning day to day operations within the parameters of established guidelines and associated reporting. Selection criteria: 1. A demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs for developmental, talented and high performance athletes in the sport of rowing in conjunction with other specialised coaching and sports performance consultants. 2. Demonstrated ability to implement and oversee a Daily Training Environment suitable to develop athletes to national standards. 3. Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing particularly with athletes, coaches, administrators and other specialists. 4. A high level of self-motivation and initiative, including the ability to work with minimal supervision. 5. Demonstrated administration and data management (computer) skills including performance analysis software applications. 6. Commitment to working in a values-based organisation demonstrated by an alignment with the purpose, culture and values of the department, and to upholding shared values through appropriate workplace behaviour. Essential requirements: Current accreditation as a Level 2 or Advanced Coach for rowing as provided by Rowing Australia or equivalent international qualification and/or experience. The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment National Criminal History Police Check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. The following check is to be conducted:

Staff are also responsible for adhering to the instructions within the security plan and are expected to be pro-active in identifying threats in their workplace, in particular challenging or reporting anyone who is not properly identified within their workplace. All staff are to be familiar with and participate in all evacuation drills.
