Data Scientist - KTP Associate Location: Greater Manchester Salary: Competitive This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Computer Science, Statistics or related graduate to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate. Ripe Services Limited own and market a growing number of mainly personal sports & leisure insurance brands and more recently have launched its first truly commercial product Commercial Drone. The latest products launched are Ripe for Valuables and Ripe for Small Business with a further four product launches planned for H under the Ripe banner. The company s strategic vision is to be the UK leader of online niche and specialist insurance products. This Knowledge Transfer Partnership will develop the use of big data analytics for dynamic pricing models with a view to increasing competitive advantage, creating growth and optimizing income. This KTP will address not only the challenges of learning accurate models but also that of optimizing pricing and risk assessment in a dynamic setting. Cont... 5

6 The successful candidate will undertake a 24-month collaborative project between Ripe Services Ltd and the University of Salford (School of Computing, Science & Engineering). Based in Wythenshawe, Manchester, you will be supported by the staff from the company and an academic team from the University of Salford whilst undertaking scientific research work. The post holder from their involvement in this programme will also gain a deeper understanding of commercial project management, finance, business relations, and marketing strategies; together with big data analysis and machine learning techniques; handling extremely large volumes of data The successful candidate will receive extensive practical and formal training, gain highly desirable specialist business skills, broaden knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project, and gain valuable experience from their commercial and academic mentors. The KTP Associate will benefit from a Personal Development Budget of 4,000 and will be encouraged to register for a PhD qualification or other postgraduate research qualification (fees waived). 6

7 What you will need Candidates should possess a degree with a minimum of a 2.1 or a higher degree in Computing Science/Statistics or related discipline. An in-depth understanding of software development methods and a wide range of data mining methodologies is essential when applying for this post as is experience of working with databases and data mining toolkits such as WEKA or R. The successful candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to elicit information, be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently and to tight deadlines within a dynamic team environment. 7
