1 AN IN-HOUSE NEWSLETTER FOR COMPANY EMPLOYEES TriNews TPM Instructor Course First Surveillance Audit- HSEQ Hattar Employees Engagement Activities Inauguration of New Metallizer Editor s Note Dear Family On Feb 8, 2014, Chairman of the Company Syed Babar Ali inaugurated the new Metalizer at Port Qasim plant. The new Metalizer having capacity of 8000 metric tons per annum has now been commissioned and started commercial production effective March 1, This Metallizer plant is capable of handling both BOPP as well as CPP films. It is state-of-the-art machine using extremely modern vacuum pumping system. This new Metalizer plant has the increased production capacity of metalized film. This investment demonstrates commitment of the Company to cater to the increased demand of metalized films in Pakistan and offer faster delivery, better quality, greater convenience and increased flexibility to the customers. This will also increase our share of metalized film in export market and will help in earning more revenue for our motherland. We are fully committed to utilize this machine to full efficiency and capacity. Mohammad Arif Kazi In-Charge Metallizer Welcome to the fall 2014 issue of Tri-News. The world is a bell curve. Classroom test scores, employee performance in a company or how many people really, really like you. No matter the population you re studying, they always fit neatly across the standard deviations of the famous bell curve. The year 2014 started with meaningful events, encompassing new joinings, employee performance, reward and recognition and last but not the least, the expanding of objective setting initiative down the line and across the board. Given our track record, our Tri-Pack Family is expected to deliver and excel in all kinds of work performance and behavior. In this eventful year, something new always greets us, reflecting on the creative skills of our workforce. The reader will therefore find plenty to engage them in this issue and our upcoming issues as well. Last but not least, I take this opportunity to sincerely welcome our new HRD Manager Mr. Mohammad Omar Khan on board and hope that under his leadership we as a Team HR shall deliver the best ever at Tri-Pack. 2 Delegation from Mitsubishi Corporation On January 15, 2014, Mr. Takuya Sahashi Team Leader of Asia and Oceania Mitsubishi Corporation, along with the other team members, visited Tri-Pack Films Limited, Port Qasim. On 14 January 2014, a delegation from Mitsubishi Corporation comprising of Mr. Yoju Yamawaki General Manager and Deputy CEO Johannesburg Branch, Mr. Sami Ullah Manager Chemical and Living Essential Group, and Mr. Jawad Majeed, visited Tri-Pack Films Limited. Delegation From TV Tokyo On March 6, 2014, Mr. Shunichi Shibayanagi from Mitsubishi Corporation Karachi Branch along with TV Tokyo delegation visited Tri-Pack Films Limited- Plant Port Qasim, in order to collect materials for their program. 2

Ltd. visited Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim on February 4, Delegation consisted of three members; Mr. Pulin S. Rajyagor - Assistant Vice President Reliance Industries Limited, Mr. Mir Mazher Talpur - Director The Bilours (Pvt.) Ltd and Mr. Zeeshan Zaidi - Marketing Manager The Bilours (Pvt.) Ltd. Delegation was welcomed by Mr. Mohammad Monir Khan - Plant Manager PQ, Mr. Mohammad Ali - Import Manager and the undersigned. The delegation had a very focused and constructive discussion over various aspects of mutual interest. The visit departed with good memories of the day. On March 14, 2014 a delegation from Procter & Gamble Co. comprising of Mr. Usman Jamshed, Mr. Mohammad Saksouk, Mr. Pramote and Mr. Gel visited Tri-Pack Films Limited, Port Qasim. Delegation from MAN Diesel & Turbo Pakistan Delegation from Manama Packaging Bahrain On April 22, 2014 a delegation from MAN Diesel & Turbo visited Plant Port Qasim. Visit comprising of Mr. Imran Ghani - Managing Director for Pakistan, Mr. Josef Maly- Managing Director South Asia, Mr. Jiri Blaha - Manager South Asia, Mr. Abdul Jabbar Ather - Strategy Manager for Pakistan and Mr. Fahad Saeed- Sales Engineer from MAN Diesel & Turbo Private Limited Pakistan. Mr. Mohammad Monir Khan - Plant Manager, Mr. Muhammad Arif Malik - Project Manager and the undersigned welcomed the guest. The delegation after having a brief meeting on the agenda had also visited the Plant area. In short the atmosphere was cheerful and highly knowledgeable. On 20 th February 2014, Factory Manager Mr. Javed Mehmood from Manama Packaging, Bahrain visited Tri-Pack Films Limited along with Export Manager Mr. Babar Baig. 4 TPM Instructor Course TPM Instructor s Course was conducted in Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim Plant from January 20 to January 25, Plant Manager Port Qasim - Mr. Mohammad Monir Khan welcomed participants and introduced the course instructor Mr. Takashi Sagae of JTSI, and course translator Mr. Iqbal Teratani. On that note Mr. Shahid Hussain - Managing Director gave the welcome note and strongly encouraged that after going through this course, participants would be able to make full use of concepts of TPM. TPM stands for Total Productive Maintenance and Management. TPM originated in Japan as a method of improved machine availability through better utilization of maintenance and production resources. In most production systems, machine operator is not considered as a part of maintenance team, whereas in TPM, operator is trained to perform many day to day tasks of maintenance and fault finding. During the course, there were forty six candidates who participated in this course. These forty six nominees were divided into four teams. These teams were named as Red team, Blue team, Yellow Team, and Green team. Each team was awarded one model machine for implementation of TPM tools. Metallizer K4000 was model machine for Red team, Metallizer K5000 was model machine for Yellow team, EREMA 2 was model machine for Green team and EREMA 1 was model machine for Blue team. Brain storming activities, skit presentation and demonstration of activity board were the main methods used during the course. On the last day in the first half written test was conducted of all the participants and in second half each team presented all six boards to the panel of judges. Judges consisted of Mr. Sagae, Mr. Muhammad Asad Ullah Butt, Mr. Muhammad Arif Malik, Mr. Mohammad Monir Khan, Mr. Babar Baig and Mr. Nadeem Khan Zai. Afterwards an award giving ceremony was arranged and on basis of presentations and total numbers scored during last six days results were announced. Yellow team was declared as Winner among all four teams. Blue team was runners up. On the basis of individual performance Mr. Muhammad Arif Qazi of Yellow team secured 1st position, Mr. Rizwan Quddus of Green team secured 2nd position and Mr. Sahar Nadeem and Mr. Junaid Ahmed Laique secured 3rd position. Special participation awards were given to those participants who actively participated in TPM activities. All forty six course members were given TPM Facilitator s Course participation certificates. 5 Food Safety Audit In order to give confidence to customers, Tri-Pack Films Limited has implemented an effective food safety plan and management system. Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) is an ISO and PAS 223 based certification scheme for food packaging manufacturers. It includes both the requirements for a Food Safety Management System found in ISO and the requirements for Prerequisite Programs found in the Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) 223. M/s SGS conducted stage # 1 audit and conforms as follows:- The organization identified Pre-requisite Programs (PRP s) that are appropriate to the business (e.g. regulatory & statutory requirements). The FSMS [Food Safety Management System] include adequate processes & methods for the identification and assessment of the organization s food safety hazards and subsequent selection and categorization of control measures (combinations). Food safety legislation is in place for the relevant sector(s) of the organization. The FSMS is designed to achieve the organization s food safety policy. The validation, verification and improvement programs conform to the requirements of ISO The FSMS documents and arrangements are in place to communicate internally and with relevant suppliers, customers and interested parties. The location of the premises and site specific conditions. Collect necessary information regarding the scope of the FSMS. The level of involvement and understanding of the client s personnel in relation to the FSMS. Evaluate if the internal audits and management reviews are being planned and performed and that the level of implementation of the FSMS program justifies proceeding to stage # 2 audit. Humayun Naseer EHS Manager Supplier s Audit Conducted by Packages Limited Quality audits serve an important function for any business, concerned with offering the best possible products for its customers. These inspections allow customers and clients to know that a company s processes are producing safe products that meet pre-established quality standards. Supplier quality management has emerged as one of the leading business practices in the past few years. World-class manufacturers are making significant investments in systems and processes to improve supplier quality. Tri-Pack Films Limited appreciates its customers to verify through auditing that Tri-Pack is following its procedures and processes. These audits identify non conformances / observations / suggestion for improvements in the manufacturing process, engineering change process, invoicing process, quality process, the supplier/shipment process and conformance to EHS management system. A three member team comprising of Mr. Hassan Asif, Mr. Imran Salaria and Mrs. Ayesha Khalid visited Tri-Pack Port Qasim on March 14, Besides highlighting few observations / suggestions, audit team appreciated the friendly and cooperative behavior, well defined and organized internal non-conformance investigation and corrective action system, Effective calibration system and confirmed significant improvements compared to last audit. Further the working environment has improved tremendously with the help of policies which identified cost savings with greater emphasis on resource, waste, energy management, emergency response. This has assisted to protect the company, assets, shareholders and directors. M/s SGS conducted first surveillance audit on HSEQ Management System and after successful completion of the audit they announced the continuation of the certification till next surveillance audit. During the surveillance it was observed that adoption of international best practices have been made in relation to risk management.these valuable practices have ensured health and well-being of employees, sub-contractors and the public. These have helped to reduce effectively, accident and incident rates by reducing and The quality of products has also received a tremendous boost as the procedures implemented assure that the oganization s output (whether product, service, or both) meets customer specifications. These assure that the quality system is consistently implemented and verifiable. Practices that measure the effectiveness of various aspects of the system have also been implemented. This support continues improvement of the company s ability to meet customer needs. We must strive to get better all the time, because customers change, and competitors gain strength. Humayun Naseer EHS Manager Workshop on Effective Business Writing Skill On January 21, 2014 a one day training work shop on EFFECTIVE BUSINESS WRITING SKILLS was organized at Marriot Hotel Karachi, facilitated by Mr. Mosin Tejani from Corporate Training Consultant & PR. The first half of training was mainly focused on the importance of effective business writing, from individual and organizational point of view. However the second half was all about the elements and practicality of an effective business note, proposal, letters, memos and other forms of business writing. During the training session, not only the awareness towards different modes of business writing styles was taught, but also the strategies to deal with different situations by the proper implementation of respective writing tool was also the main agenda of the subject training. The session proceeded with an activity based on the importance of proper and improper writing styles in an organization, which from practical perspective proves very beneficial for understanding the proper usage of business writing. In short, the workshop provided an opportunity to interact with the people from other companies and discussed topics of mutual interest with respect to subject training. I hereby personally found this training very helpful and practical for the job and I intend to try to apply every tool of effective business writing with the perspective to excel in my job. 7 Dinner Party In Honor Of Employees Transferred From Plant Hattar Commending the services and engagement of the employees who were transferred from Plant Hattar to Plant PQ Karachi, the Managing Director, Mr. Shahid Hussain hosted a dinner at his residence on March 25, Mangers and transferred employees. At the end, a sumptuous dinner was served amongst the guests. 8 Engagement Activities at Tri-Pack At Tri-Pack we want an open and supportive culture that blends together with diversity and innovation. By constructing engagement models we equip our employees with tools to enable a culture of teamwork, openness and innovation, where new perspectives and ideas are initiated. On March 30, 2014 the Company arranged a beach picnic for employees transferred from Plant Hattar to Plant Karachi. In short such engagement activities not only create a culture of openness and freedom of expression but also help the Company in improving its overall efficiency and productivity level.
