There are over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK. Almost two thirds have a disability and one third rely on others for help, making stroke one of the biggest causes of disability. We are continually working to improve the lives of stroke survivors and their families who deserve the very best treatment and care. We deliver amazing, life-changing support to over 60,000 stroke survivors and their families each year. We also fund research to find better treatments, campaign for better stroke care and help people understand how to spot and prevent stroke. Directorate The Stroke Association has a new Strategy and Research directorate which is at its heart, taking the lead in transforming our capability and performance in the areas of strategy development, research, corporate planning and reporting, change management, generation and use of insight, monitoring, evaluation and impact reporting. To be effective in this role you will need to work closely with all other teams within the directorate, as well as liaising closely and establishing strong relationships in all teams and departments, with frequent engagement and communication with staff and volunteers across the whole organisation. Join us and help to achieve a world free of stroke. Purpose of role Every Stroke Association role is designed to contribute towards achieving our strategic ambitions. The particular focus of this role is to help us to achieve Ambition 4: Building research and promoting knowledge to improve stroke care. The role will primarily manage and ensure delivery of the Stroke Association s James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership (JLA PSP) in stroke from the beginning with some additional research communications activity, but as the JLA PSP process becomes established and is moving forward well, more time will be spent promoting and communicating our research. We expect that the JLA PSP project will take approximately 18 months, after which we expect this role will develop into a more strategic communications and project management position. A strong commitment to networking, engagement and effective communications both internally and externally are vital to delivering this role. 3 meetings and providing minutes, notes and ensuring follow-up tasks and actions are delivered Organising and coordinating priority setting workshops, liaising closely with JLA advisor and information specialist to develop content and deliver outputs and attended Evidence of changes implemented Workshops are organised in good time Feedback from JLA advisor and information specialist Business acumen Improvement & Innovation Communication & Collaboration Business Acumen Leading on engagement, dissemination and communications around the project across multiple internal and external stakeholders, including development and delivery of a dissemination and engagement plan Liaising and establishing meaningful working relationships with a large number of internal and external stakeholders including clinicians, SA staff and volunteers, people affected by stroke External and internal feedback Leadership Stakeholder feedback Monitoring survey data and management of large, complex datasets, with the ability to interpret and report activity and recommendations to the Steering Committee Support the Research team in the day-to-day delivery of communications and information-sharing internally and externally of the Research programme and its strategic goals and outputs. 4 providing information for fundraising appeals or supporting the team to promote research findings internally and externally e.g. via social media, and the website. Lead on a Research Communications plan to develop some bespoke, tailored products and outputs which clearly articulate our outputs and achievements in Research for different audiences. This will include an up-to-date research impact report and will also involve webinars, blogs and other engagement tools. 6 Person specification Education Educated to degree level, or equivalent preferably in a scientific or healthcare related subject Formal project management training / Experience Advanced knowledge of MS Office Familiar with web editing, desktop publishing and social media tools Familiar with patient and public engagement Familiar with managing and monitoring survey data and interpretation of large, complex datasets Knowledge and experience of strategy development Knowledge and understanding of the third sector Knowledge and understanding of stroke and/or disability and/or the healthcare environment Knowledgeable of, and empathetic to the work, mission and goals of the Stroke Association Skills and abilities Proven track record of project management on a large scale with multiple partners and stakeholders Proven track record of ability to manage and interpret large, complex datasets
