2 Presentation of first draft report and feedback on first Council meeting The employment situation and skills needs trends of the Audiovisual and Live performance sectors in Europe Daphne Tepper, Creative Skills Europe

4 Work plan developed on the basis of the conclusions of a feasibility study (2012) Launched in November 2014 (18 months) Piloted by European social partners and national skills councils Co-financed by EC (PROGRESS programme, DG Employment) In the context of the EU skills strategy

5 Objectives: Collecting and sharing labour market intelligence to better anticipate change and prepare for the future Promoting peer learning and the exchange of information and best practices across EU borders Identifying and documenting trends and skills needs, formulating recommendations

6 Key activities: 3 thematic reports: qualitative and quantitative data on sector employment and training needs 3 meetings in Tallinn, Prague and Madrid 2 capacity-building sessions an online platform A final European conference mid-2016

7 Three reports : - Report 1 (Tallinn): on the employment situation and skills needs trends in the sectors - Report 2 (Prague): on the evolution of skills and occupations in the sectors - Report 3 (Madrid): on innovative tools and national and regional strategies developed to monitor and address skills needs in the sectors

8 How was report 1 prepared / how will it be finalised: - Guidance by the steering committee - Contributions from 4 countries (BE, FR, NL, UK) - Presentation and collection of feedback in Tallinn - Collection of additional data from more EU countries and broadening of conclusions / recommendations

9 Objectives of report 1: - Collecting existing data - Developing a methodological grid that allows for the confrontation of this data - Identifying emerging trends - Formulating conclusions and recommendations for further actions at EU level

10 Methodological framework: Three key variables were identified in the quantitative data collected in BE, FR, NL, UK: (1)The perimeter of the sector footprint used to collect the statistics (2)The year of the statistics collected, and sometimes the units used to count the data (3)The type of data collected (or not)

11 Methodological framework: If differences exist, there are also similarities: - use of industrial classifications in line with the European industry standard classification system - same aim: enhancing the sector intelligence on employment trends and translating this knowledge into relevant skills development initiatives

12 Data available at national level: - Employers statistics (per type of activity, per size) - Workers statistics (per type of activity, per type of contract full time or part time / intermittent or permanent / employed or self-employed, per gender, per age, per type of occupation)

15 Trends audiovisual sector: - Positive development trend but do not always translate into employment opportunities - Very small size companies and high selfemployment - Broadcasters: largest employers - Higher number of companies active in production - Skills needs trends: fast pace technological changes, new occupations, broadening of skillset

16 Trends live performance sector: - Majority of very small companies mostly active in creation and production - Overall growth of sector but fragile employment opportunities (freelancing, short term contracts, low remunerations) - New skills needs: skills to manage less linear careers, complementary skills to diversify activities

17 Feedback from Tallinn meeting: On the report - Be clear on the purpose of statistics (policymakers/sector) - For each country, add overall statistics to put the sector statistics in perspective - Review the language used (competence-based learning, self employment, etc.), add comments to clarify terminology - Data collection from additional countries possible but challenging

18 Feedback from Tallinn meeting: On the project in general - Great interest in networking, exchanging information/experiences/practices across EU countries - Need to base the work in sufficiently robust data but then move promptly to concrete, practical initiatives - Create focus groups on specific topics? (apprenticeships, new business models, etc.) - Online platform seen as very useful tool

19 Next steps: - Finalisation of report and of online version - Launch of the website / send out newsletter 1 - Preparations report 2 (collection qualitative analyses) - Preparation meeting 2 and capacity building session (Prague, December)
