2 OKD, a.s. - Introduction OKD belongs to New World Resources N. V., a Dutch industrial Group OKD is a sole hard coal producer in the Czech Republic Its Underground mines are located in the southern part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin in the Ostrava-Karviná coal district Germany Czech Rep. Austria Poland Slovakia Hungary OKD s JORC reserves of hard coal: 206 Mt Total hard coal production in 2010: 11,4 Mt OKD employs about 17,100 people. It belongs to the top largest employers not only in northern Moravia region but also in the Czech Republic 2

Introduction OKD operates 4 mines: Karviná Darkov ČSM, Paskov Types of coal: Coking and thermal Key customers: Large steel and electricity companies in the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Germany. The coal can be also processed further in coking, chemical and other industries 3

In 2007 NWR adopted the strategic decision to improve the efficiency, safety and profitability of the Company Productivity Optimisation Programme (POP 2010) launched in 2008 Objective: To improve equipment performance by implementing state-of-the-art technology for longwall production and gateroad development Overall capital cost: EUR 350 million Benefits: Increased productivity performance Safer working environment Dust suppression works much better 4

5 SAFETY 2010 Programme Launched at the end of 2008 Within the programme state-of-the-art working gear for our miners was purchased Significant improvement of microclimatic conditions at underground work sections, in particular at ČSM Mine due to the installation of a central air-conditioning system Working boots Overall cost: EUR 17 million U/G cap lamps Self-rescue devices 5 Modern dangerous gas detectors

10 2011 GOALS Keep improving personal attitude of each employee towards safe behavior and safe working rules Keep reducing dust exposure and improving microclimatic conditions at underground work sections Keep searching for and evaluating risks, identifying hazards and defining safety and health actions in order to prevent dangerous situations and enhance work and operational safety Increase the frequency of inspections checking the abidance by design documentation and technological procedures set forth for individual work sections Improve the awareness on prevention and on improvements in health and safety results Continue with all efficient actions and competitions from the past period 10
