Our main activities are the provision of affordable studios, a renowned programme of exhibitions, and a localised education programme. Through these contingent parts, we provide ways for audiences to engage with contemporary art and culture. For over 20 years, we have been supporting emerging and underrepresented artists at a pivotal point in their careers. We have established an ambitious and vibrant space that enjoys a national and international profile. Studio Voltaire is a place of constant artistic production and creativity, with a full year round programme of exhibitions, events, participatory and educational projects, as well as our on site complex of affordable artist studios. In 2019 Studio Voltaire is embarking on a major 2.3million capital project to expand and redevelop its current home in Clapham, South London. This timely and transformative redevelopment is the most ambitious transition in the organisations 23 year history. Studio Voltaire will close its doors to the public for a period of twelve months.

2 The new scheme will provide 42% more affordable studio space for artists through the building of a new mezzanine level, directly addressing London s shortage of affordable artist s workspace. Studio Voltaire s existing studio building will be completely renovated to provide a range of high quality studios to over 75 artists, along with two live work units to house visiting artists and curators. Studio Voltaire will also launch a new Associates Programme, awarding ten artists free studios for two years, as well as a programme of professional development and mentoring. About the role Studio Voltaire wants to create a new fixed term role of General Manager. Working closely alongside Studio Voltaire s Director, Deputy Director, you will play an important role in managing the gallery, office and studio building. The General Manager has responsibility for day to day office and building management, provides administrative support to the Deputy Director, manages the front of house team and oversees financial administration as required. 3 Job Description Employer: Job Title: Responsible to: Pay scale: experience Studio Voltaire Ltd General Manager Deputy Director 25,000 28,000 pro rata dependent on Conditions of work Fixed term contract, 18 months 3 days per week including one weekend during exhibition periods: PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Financial Preparation of quarterly management accounts Oversee bookkeeper ensuring all receipts and invoices are correctly coded and filed Management of petty cash General financial administration House of Voltaire cashing up, reconciliation and banking Provide regular reports for budget holders Budget management for office consumables, maintenance, travel and governance Preparation of annual gift aid submission Operational/Building Ensuring the office infrastructure supports all aspects of activity including office supplies and equipment, IT, rotas and Cleaning Studio, gallery and office maintenance Liaising with studio artists on any issues, rent, applications or enquiries Health & Safety, risk assessments Manages the Front of House team, including recruiting and training new team members, with support from the Deputy Director

4 Management of relationships with studio artists, management of studio application process Development Arts Council NPO reporting preparation with the Deputy Director (quarterly and annual) Supporting the Deputy Director and other team members on proofing budgets and reports for applications Keeping the fundraising targets spreadsheet up to date Governance Preparation financial data for board meeting Scheduling meetings and taking minutes Setting up for meetings Capital Project Management of office move and set up Oversee clearance of studio building Arrange temporary storage and on going management and clearance ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES At least one years experience in a relevant role Meticulous organisational skills, including experience of implementing and improving administrative systems Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail Demonstrable and informed interest in contemporary art and visual culture, with a particular knowledge of the contemporary art work in London and internationally, and Studio Voltaire s particular role within it. Experience of managing people and the ability to demonstrate leadership and work flexibly within a team environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail Experience of working as part of a small team and the ability to forge mutually respectful and effective working relationships with a diverse group of personalities, including members of the Board, patrons, volunteers, staff etc.

5 A flexible self motivated approach to working and experience of multi tasking, an ability to prioritise and plan Strong IT skills, with the confidence to manage both familiar and unfamiliar technologies and liaise with external IT support Good IT skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel, Photoshop and InDesign.
