2 2 Welcome to the Polish SciVal user community! Starting January 2018, Elsevier s SciVal solution is available to all universities and research institutions in Poland. Poland is among the top countries in Europe for SciVal usage intensity (other top conutries are: UK, Italy, Russia) SciVal provides a powerful tool for: - researchers, - research managers, - research administrators, - research evaluators. SciVal enables flexibles analysis of: - research performance of individuals, research groups, institutions, - collaboration networks, - areas and topics of research. Elsevier provides training and consulting opportunities for SciVal and has set up a Research Evaluation Academy for Polish professionals. 7 11 Why certify? What are the benefits? You become the spearhead for SciVal in your institution, enabled to play a key role in research assessment and research support. You receive a Certificate of Completion with your name and institution, endorsed by Elsevier. You will receive information related to usage of SciVal tailored for Poland first-hand. This includes tips and tricks for using SciVal in the new national evaluation system. You join the Certified SciVal Community, being informed about the latest product releases, keeping in touch with upcoming events. You can take the next step and become a Certified SciVal Advisor. As an advisor, you can win a special reward: Visiting Elsevier s headquarters in Amsterdam and meeting with SciVal product team.

8 12 Current status of test, plans to continuation First series: Q3/Q Test released July Original deadline: October 31 st people registered people took the test - 4 people successfully certified till September Further tests under evaluation, expect approx. 10 people certified Next series: Q The Academy framework will stay the same - The test is going to be updated in January Expected next certification deadline: April 30 th 2019.

13 17 Test topics This test is aimed at demonstrating your proficiency in evidence based research management as well as your working knowledge of SciVal in the planning and evaluation of research programs. Basic concepts of SciVal: what is the goal and functionality of the SciVal solution? What are the data sources? Basic technicalities of SciVal: how do I get started? How do I navigate around SciVal? Standard functionality of SciVal: modules, selection of entities, selection of metrics. Understanding metrics: interpretation and use cases. Interpreting analytic results: real-life examples will be shown. What is the conclusion you can draw from them? One short essay type question: describe a practical, real life use for SciVal in your institution.

14 18 Advice for taking the test The language of the test is English. We recommend that you use a full size screen (laptop or monitor) for a clear view of screenshots which accompany some test questions. The test consists of 20 items. Please read each question carefully and answer it to the best of your knowledge. There is no time limit but the test is expected to take 30 to 60 for completing it. You may try and take the test several times. Upon completion, you will immediately receive the results of the first 19 test questions. The last item, a short essay question will be evaluated separately, and we will advise you of your results. You have to score successfully 80% of the test to pass the assessment, and become a certified SciVal professional. The due date for completion of the SciVal Research Assessment Academy Poland Certification Test is Wednesday, October 31st, 2018.
