1 CITY OF BROOKLYN PARK invites applications for the position of: Recreation Supervisor - Adult & Senior SALARY: $ $44.11 Hourly $5, $7, Monthly $67, $91, Annually OPENING DATE: 10/03/18 CLOSING DATE: 10/24/18 11:59 PM POSITION SUMMARY: Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented individual who has a desire to make a difference in Brooklyn Park. This key leadership position will work within the Recreation Division Management Team in determining program outcomes and facility development/use for adults and seniors in accordance with best practice and City Council directives. This position assesses recreation program quality and needs for the community and implements programs. This position will work independently under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager to develop innovative programs focused on quality, partnerships, and service to our community. This position is responsible for preparing and working with three (3) Medicare Insurance fitness program contracts and the contracts/payments that provide travel, entertainment, education and presentations. This position requires an ability to work with an understanding of social work and social services as it relates to the aging population. Specifically, working with adult fitness, enrichment and senior programming. This position is responsible for supervision of staff and volunteers, evaluating program effectiveness, scheduling and supervision of facilities, and working with other City departments on Age Friendly community initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate adult and senior programs and services Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate adult fitness and wellness programs for adults and seniors Recruit, hire, train and supervise part time and seasonal staff Coordinate adult trips and off-site offerings Plan, direct and supervise events for senior adults at the Community Activity Center and throughout the community Identify potential risks in advance, analyze them and take steps to reduce liability for City and ensure safety of participants and visitors Work with contract vendors to deliver specialty services and programs, and identifies performance benchmarks Coordinate facility maintenance needs with facility coordinators and maintenance supervisors Facilitate meetings for various work groups Conduct on going research of current best practices in senior and adult programming Prepare and monitor program budgets Engage citizens by creating volunteer leadership opportunities for adults, seniors and families Write materials to promote and market programs and events

2 Provide information and resources for seniors with specific needs and determine the appropriate programs and services to implement Make adjustments accordingly to program and service offerings. Seek alternative revenue sources Solve customer problems, complaints to their satisfaction and within policy guidelines Continuing to grow programs with a rapidly growing senior and aging adult population MINIMUM AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Parks, Human Services, Community Social Work, Education or related field Experience Five (5) years of experience organizing leisure activities, for adults and seniors Five (5) years of experience supervising employees, including recruiting, hiring and conducting evaluations Three (3) years of experience with budget preparation and management of program budgets and funds One (1) year experience working with community organizations, senior clubs, social services agencies One (1) year experience working with diverse age and socioeconomic clients Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience preparing written materials to promote and market programs and services Experience developing and implementing recreation programs in a municipal setting Experience utilizing and coordinating the service of volunteers Ability to orally communicate effectively within all levels of the organization and write clear and concise reports, and written documents Ability to write, develop and create materials to promote recreation programs on social media Must be an enthusiastic, creative and flexible leader who can manage multiple duties. Clear and well-defined vision for, and commitment to, the unique role Parks and Recreation plays in community building Experience working in group situations to generate programming ideas, collaborate efficiently, and solve problems collectively Proven ability to influence others, and build positive, effective working relationships Success in recruiting talented and culturally diverse individuals to deliver desired programs Desired Qualifications Master's degree in Recreation and Parks, Human/Services, Community Social Work, Education or related field Previous experience working with or research on Age Friendly Community Ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience, and understanding

3 Ability to relate to and work with individuals representing a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction Previous experience working with diverse populations Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali or Vietnamese language(s) Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check is necessary for certain positions with this job title.
