The pattern of hours may vary according to operational needs and generally work will be carried out during normal office hours. We re a flexible employer. Contract This is a permanent contract. The period of notice is 1 month in writing on each side. Holiday Equal Opportunities 25 days per annum, plus statutory holidays. From our Urban Innovation Centre in London, we provide world-class facilities and expertise to support the development of new products and services, as well as opportunities to collaborate with others, test ideas and develop business models. We help innovators turn ingenious ideas into working prototypes that can be tested in real urban settings. Then, once they're proven, we help spread them to cities across the world to improve quality of life, strengthen economies and protect the environment. We are looking for a communicator who is great with people, and who can also handle complex ideas. Based in the CEO s office, this position will work closely with teams across the organisation. Being in the CEO s office gives a great overview across the organisation as this position needs a sound understanding of everything we re up to. You ll be telling our stories, become a brand ambassador, and help drive our employee engagement and knowledge sharing.

2 We have communications channels that need managing; primarily a brand new intranet and regular Staff Away Days and we re interested in new ideas to ensure we are a joined-up and well-informed workplace. We need to build our knowledge sharing and management to make the most of what we know. Experience working in complex environments, with an international outlook is desirable, as is experience of working in communications and/or knowledge management. A high level of independence and the ability to prioritise whilst working across different teams is also essential. The Future Cities Catapult operates in some complex areas so confidence in working in such an environment is a must. Key Responsibilities: The Internal Communications and Knowledge Manager will report to the Head of Strategy. They will have the following responsibilities: Internal communications (50%) Be the central point of contact for internal communications. Develop and manage the portfolio of internal communications channels on behalf of the leadership team with all relevant colleagues including IT and key information (and information system) owners. Organise and manage the day-to-day processes of internal communications e.g. townhall meetings, newsletters, announcements, intranet, and webinars or staff awaydays. Develop a concise, engaging and informal tone and style for Future Cities Catapult s internal communications. Work with HR to conduct regular staff surveys and hold regular interviews with staff to identify areas for improvement in internal communication, and suggest and execute improvements. Run staff engagement campaigns on strategic themes such as urban mobility, healthy cities and sustainability and link in with relevant external campaigns such as Earth day Align and support the HR team with implementing inductions, onboarding and recruitment activities. Be an active member of the CEO office.

3 Knowledge Management (30%) Develop a practical knowledge management strategy including links with Finance, People and Organisational Development, Communications, IT, the Cities Lab, the Operations team and others, including business and systems architects. Implement priority knowledge management initiatives. Assist with other tasks potentially including: providing content for the intranet, corporate website, input into corporate reports, etc. Branding (10%) Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop the brand. Assist colleagues on how to use the brand templates for internal comms. Implement the brand guidelines across the all internal communications channels. General administration and evaluation (10%) Evaluate communications activities for financial planning and budgeting. Plan and manage own work in advance. Budget management in co-ordination with line manager. Complete other tasks as may be assigned by the line manager. Outcomes are what you need to accomplish in your role. These are useful to know these before you start. These are not all the outcomes you will be expected to achieve, but some of the primary ones: The role-specific first year outcomes are: Launch the intranet (if not yet launched), and achieve an 85% engagement rating 6 months after launch. Streamline and improve our internal communications including a plan for Implement at least 4 initiatives to improve internal communications. Improve staff satisfaction with internal comms by at least 5 percentage points. Develop and have approved by EMT a knowledge management strategy. Implement at least 3 substantive elements of the knowledge management strategy. Great working relationships across the organisation.

4 Essential skills and experience: Qualifications Educated to degree level in a communications or knowledge management related field. Knowledge and Experience Professional communicator or knowledge managers with at least 3-5 years experience working with digital channels and across a complex organisation. An interest in urban innovation. An interest in the emerging communications media landscape. An interest in corporate strategy. Excellent ability to write in English, translating complex material into easy to read promotional copy. Excellent IT literacy (Microsoft Office) especially Powerpoint and Excel. Experience of working within a set of brand messages and identity guidelines. Experience of digital media good practice, including a user-centric approach to content, usability testing and accessibility. Skills and Expertise Copywriting skills. Creative thinking and problem solving skills. Strategic and action planning. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Outstanding organisational, interpersonal and networking skills. Teamwork and motivation, ability to interact with a multi-cultural team. Ability to exercise initiative and plan work independently. Ability to coordinate and motivate colleagues. Ability to act independently and make decisions without supervision. Ability to edit websites, including working with a content management system, Wordpress.

5 General: Ability to select and optimise photographs for the web. Great attention to detail, good time management and organisation skills. Ability to work as part of a team. to act on own initiative and use judgement and discretion. Ability to write and deliver communications plans for events. Able to travel for international or European events as required as part of the position, including overnight stay. Self-motivated, and proactive. Desirable: Knowledge of best practice in the areas of communications. Experience of assessing web traffic metrics and preparing reports. Experience of coordinating video production. An understanding of sustainability issues surrounding cities.
