3 PREAMBLE The B.Voc degree programme, under the umbrella of KAUSHAL Kendra is an innovative system of education for the young generation of India, has today become the national phenomenon. Development of a sustainable community through imparting employable skills to the undereducated, thereby improving the quality of life of the community people and also to simulate a social development and economic growth. The prime objective is to provide an educated and skilled workforce that improves the quality of life for individual students and the communities in general. The need for giving emphasis on the Skill Development, especially for the less educated, poor youth has been highlighted in various forums. The skill level and educational attainment of the work force determines the productivity, income levels as well as the adaptability of the working class in changing environment. Large percentage of population in India is living below poverty line. One of the important causes is lower percentage of skilled persons in the workforce.

4 SALIENT FEATURES OF KAUSHAL KENDRA In order to take integrated initiatives towards knowledge acquisition and up-gradation of skilled human competencies in universities and colleges, Ministry of Human Resource and Development under the supervision of University Grants Commission has established 46 Deen Dayal Upadhyay Centres for Knowledge Acquisition and Upgradation of Skilled Human Abilities and Livelihood (KAUSHAL) during the XII Plan period spreading all over the country. The main objectives behind the establishment of the KAUSHAL are to: a) Create skilled manpower for industry requirements at various levels. The scheme provides for vertical mobility from short term certificate courses to full-fledged post graduate degree programme, and further research in specialized areas. These shall also include courses which are offered under the Community College Scheme and B.Voc. degree programme of UGC. b) Formulate courses at postgraduate level keeping in mind the need of i) Industry in specialized areas; ii) Instructional design, curriculum design and contents in the areas of Skills Development; iii) Entrepreneurship; etc. c) Work for coordination between the higher education system and industry to become a Centre of Excellence for skill development in specialized areas. d) Undertake R&D in the areas related to skill education & development, entrepreneurship, employability, labour market trends etc. at the post-graduate and research level.

5 BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE Mahishadal Raj College (ESTD. 1946) is the third oldest government sponsored college in the undivided district of Midnapore affiliated to Vidyasagar University. It is a multi disciplinary co educational NAAC accredited college with three faculties in science, commerce and humanities. There are vocational Industrial Chemistry course and UGC approved career oriented courses such as Communicative English, Chemical Operator and Tax Procedures as well as non formal training of youth.

7 ADMISSION PROCEDURE ELIGIBILTY: The minimum educational qualification for admission is Class 12 pass or equivalent from any recognized board. RESERVATION POLICY: The reservation procedure is followed as per norms of Vidyasagar University The filled in Application form should reach the Office of the KAUSHAL Kendra, on or before the last date mentioned in the advertisement. Incomplete and late applications will not be entertained. The decision of the Selection Committee is final regarding the selection of candidates for admission to the B.Voc Courses. The Committee may take Special Consideration to those Candidates coming from Poor Income Brackets.

8 RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Students should attend all classes regularly and punctually. 2. Students will not be granted attendance if they fail to reach the class after 5 minutes. 3. Students are not permitted to absent themselves without prior permission. 4. Although the university prescribes a minimum of 75% attendance, the KAUSHAL Kendra insists on regular attendance in all classes. In case of less than 75%, the candidate may be debarred from appearing in the Semester examination. 5. Students enrolled to the B.Voc Courses must recognize their responsibilities towards the faulty, office staff and fellow students. Failure to conform with appropriate standards of conduct will attract disciplinary action. 6. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited, any incident of ragging will invite strict penalty as laid down in the provisions of law.
