September 2017 ADOBIS GROUP and CM-CIC Innovation Getting to the heart of data

Jointly led by a team of three highly experienced people with complementary skills, Adobis Group is one of France s most innovative start-ups in the hospital information systems market. This market is just the beginning for the team, which intends to roll out its big data solutions in many other sectors. Sandra Mathieu

ADOBIS GROUP et CM-CIC Innovation, a data-focused partnership How did Adobis Group come about? Sandra Mathieu: Stephan Jeanneau, Claude Sibert and I have been working together in healthrelated IT for more than 25 years. In 2002, we pooled our expertise to found PrisMédiCa, our first company, specialising in software for managing data and patient records. After selling that company to US group McKesson in late 2010, we wanted to continue our journey together and work on a new project. That s how we came to launch Adobis Group in late Is it an extension of your first business? S.M.: The idea for Adobis Group came from our experience in the medical and hospital sectors, but our new solution addresses an issue that spans many disciplines, and so this will be just the first application. Healthcare facilities and the medico-social sector produce and consume large amounts of structured and unstructured data, which often come from various types of silos. This complexity within information systems, along with the need to factor in the external data that are now available to the various entities, means that we need to think holistically about the way information is used. Our concept is to provide an innovative, generic technical building-block, supported by an effective functional suite, to analyse, monitor and represent data and issue alerts. The concept works regardless of the volume of data processed or structural differences. How is the roll-out progressing? S.M.: After 36 months of R&D to finalise the concept, we arranged for hospitals we know well to carry out «proof of concept» testing of our technical building-block (Generic Data) and our functional suite (Health Data Hub). Our products met with a very enthusiastic response, and we expect to make our first sales by the end of the year. You are not the only ones in this market. How do you add value? S.M.: Firstly, we offer the ability to process both structured and uncodified data in real time, including data that are external to medical facilities. For example, we can link emergency admissions with environmental data such as weather conditions or air pollution in order to define alert models or to predict situations (Deep Learning). Adobis Group s other strength is our ability to deal with very large volumes of data. For example, we recently benchmarked our solutions at IBM s research centre in Montpellier, and at the same time on clusters in the USA. We obtained very good results for our ability to deploy our solution quickly within complex infrastructures. Performance tests have validated our solution s ability to process and

store data in distributed mode and in the cloud. Tests took place on a database corresponding to 6 billion patients (generated artificially), i.e. around 2 terabytes. Could your solution be of interest to sectors other than healthcare? S.M.: Yes. The complexity we have encountered in healthcare facilities (sensitivity of medical data with inherent access rights, patient care, epidemiological research, multiple silos) means that we can offer pragmatic solutions that are easy to use and relevant to other industries, such as aerospace. We can make complex data become transparent for users, regardless of their business area. For example, we have been part of Aerospace Valley for a few months now. We are also in advanced discussions with banks, insurers and manufacturers. Our tools are multilingual and we are also in touch with European and Canadian distributors. What support does CM-CIC Investissement give you? S.M.: Our contacts have been working with us since 2006, during the PrisMédiCa era, and they agreed to help us again when we set up Adobis Group. Their role has changed over time. In 2010, they gave us valuable advice when we sold out to an American company. Today, they are supporting us as we plan our company s long-term market position, giving us time to develop. The scale of their portfolio and their network also enables them to put us in touch with many people in a wide variety of economic sectors. 36 months of research and development 2 terabytes of data processed to date 20 years of experience

ADOBIS GROUP as seen by Émilie Lidome, CM-CIC Innovation. Émilie Lidome We know the management team well, because we worked with them when we were investors in PrisMédiCa. Our partnership was very successful back then, partly due to our relationship with the management team, which was based on trust and transparency and worked very smoothly. As a result, it was a very easy decision for us to support this new adventure on which Sandra, Claude and Stéphane have boarded. That s especially true given that their solution addresses a real need in the healthcare industry: the current economic situation, in which healthcare facilities are running large budget deficits, requires them to find solutions that enable them to value their activity more accurately and use their resources more effectively, but also optimise patient care. This dynamic and visual monitoring of data fits with Adobis Group s aim of being an information aggregator. The capabilities of the GenericData software mean that the range of possible applications is growing even further, opening up the way for much broader development than previously expected!
