2 inspiring futures launched in April 2014 and is Coastline s support programme to enable customers to improve their financial wellbeing by accessing support, training, funding and employment opportunities to get back to work. This document highlights the outcomes for customers and the impact for our communities of inspiring futures during its first year. Community Investment Officers trained in Advice and Guidance provide support and signposting for customers to help them on their journey back to the work place. During 2014/15 inspiring futures included four key areas: 1. Support ll Support from a Community Investment Officer trained in Advice and Guidance ll Access to food bank vouchers ll Signposting from a Coastline Community Champion trained in Welfare Reform changes During 2014/15 strong partnership links were developed which supported inspiring futures. We are proud of what has been achieved by working together and would like to thank all the agencies involved. 2. Training 3. Funding Coastline provided or sign posted customers to work focused education and training. Courses covered everything from confidence and assertiveness, through to the building trade CSCS cards, basic food hygiene and first aid qualifications. Coastline gave customers access to the Open4training&development funding portal which provided easy access to funding opportunities to help with course fees, exam costs, childcare and living expenses. 4. Employment opportunities ll Coastline provided access to MyWorkSearch to help customers search for jobs, create a CV and keep their JobCentre Plus advisor up to date Active Plus is proud to work alongside the inspiring futures programme and delighted with the success they have achieved with young people in Cornwall. Chris Allen Active Plus As an IAG (Information, Advice & Guidance) Mentor at Work Skills Training Academy, Cornwall College I am delighted and excited to be part of the working partnership with Coastline Housing s inspiring futures. To have such an excellent work placement scheme to refer an unemployed customer to is brilliant. The work placements at Coastline are real work experience, are well supported by the Coastline Staff and I have seen the enormous benefit they have given; confidence boosting, skill building and job outcomes. Lynne Maunder Work Skills Training Academy 2 ll Coastline promoted apprenticeships both internally and externally ll To help local people take steps to make their future more secure and to gain new skills and experience we offered eight week work placements for up to 10 people twice during the year. This included a comprehensive package of training which in turn helped them build their CV. Placements were offered right across Coastline and created a real experience of work in a supportive environment 3

3 inspiring futures case study Leon The Community Investment Team informed me about training and opportunities for people claiming unemployment benefit, Job Seekers Allowance and Employment Support Allowance. I attended an Explore Course, a ROLO Course, CSCS, practical and Work Placement training on the Work Skills Training Academy and Kier training site Quintrell Downs. This was a long process, starting with practical community projects like creating an allotment site for residents. I also gained Health & Safety qualifications for Land Based Operatives and Construction Skills Certification Scheme, Level 1 Award in Health & Safety. With the work placement and construction skills at Work Skills Training Academy and Kier site my confidence grew, I learnt new skills and enjoyed being part of the working team. I have now been offered an Apprenticeship as a Brick Layer and am self-employed! Work placements Making a difference through work placements Edward Technical Services, Coastline Housing I ve enjoyed the atmosphere here working with different people and it s given me the confidence that I can do this job in the future. Andy Painting & Decorating, Coastline Services All I ve ever done is painting and decorating but since I ve been in Cornwall, for last 2½ years, it s been hard to find work so I haven t worked at all. Erika Lettings, Coastline Housing The eight week placement has been brilliant! The placement was really useful and I would recommend it for other people who want to get back into work. We helped local people by providing work experience placements. Over two eight week sessions, 20 job seekers joined us to learn new skills and gain real experience in a supportive workplace. They also received a series of training sessions in things like first aid and interview techniques, all of which helped bring their CVs right up to date and improved their chances of securing a job. Leanna Cox Community Investment Officer at Coastline Housing I ve really enjoyed seeing our work placements doing so well. All of them put so much into finding out about Coastline and how the skills they learned here could be used with other employers. We re so pleased that some have been able to secure employment with us while others have gone onto gain local jobs or attend more training. Giving everyone a tailored work plan to follow during their eight weeks made sure each individual placement got the most out of it, and staff across the company tell me they are really pleased to see people increasing their opportunities to get back into work 4 Dan HR/PR/Communications, Coastline Housing It s been amazing, I ve had so much of a confidence boost over the eight weeks and it s been a pleasure working here. Working in HR it was lovely to call up people and say we d like you to come in for an interview for a job vacancy, just to hear the pleasure in their voice and how happy they were to get that news and for me to be the one to give it to them. Fareed Repairs, Coastline Housing I m not the sort of person who sits down, I just wanted to get out there and get hands on and I ve been out fixing customers properties. It s really, really useful. Getting all the training certificates helps towards getting employment. 5

HACT analyse the results of large national to isolate the effect of a particular factor on a person s wellbeing. Analysis then reveals the equivalent amount of money needed to increase someone s wellbeing by the same amount. The valuation does not seek to value individual s experience of inspiring futures but instead represents the experience of the average person.
