3 Finance Director Role Profile Job Title: Finance Director Salary: 65,000 per annum Benefits: Pension at 10%, BUPA, 31 days annual leave inc Bank Holidays Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday Location: Marwell Wildlife Reports to: Chief Executive Management: 4 direct reports - Financial Controller, IT Manager, Head of Project Management and Head of Facilities. Role Purpose and Role Dimensions: To provide strong leadership and direction to the Finance, IT, Facilities and Projects teams, ensuring that sound financial analysis, capital expenditure, information management systems and infrastructure continue to support and enhance Marwell s operations. 4 Lead the overall financial management of Marwell Wildlife and contribute to (and support) meetings of the main board Continue to develop high performing finance, IT, facilities and building projects functions ensuring Marwell maximises the full potential from opportunities in its market, and through new commercial ventures Oversee capital expenditure system and line manage the Head of Project Management Development and maintenance of appropriate management systems, controls and procedures, encouraging appropriate delegation wherever appropriate Advising the Chief Executive on matters of financial strategy, including contribution to financial aspects of the strategic plan Advising the Chief Executive on the performance and financial position of Marwell Wildlife and its trading company Marwell Services Limited Reporting and interpretation of performance and financial position, with particular reference to deviations from budget and policy as set by the Board of Trustees To give regular financial presentations to the Board of Trustees and appropriate committees Management of the budget process, with delegated actions to peers in the Executive team Overseeing the Cost Centre system, including liaison with Cost Centre managers, to ensure their awareness of the financial performance of individual cost centres, and their accountability for it Compliance with UK and EU legislation related to accounts of UK registered charities and UK limited companies Overseeing VAT and gift aid reporting, ensuring compliance and awareness of key developments in these areas. Overseeing the reporting and monitoring of financial aspects of operational performance Appraisal and recommendation to the Chief Executive as appropriate, on the negotiation of significant contracts Treasury management, ensuring that the our financial assets produce an appropriate return as a key source of income Finding and exploiting innovative ways of financing projects Awareness of the aims and objectives of Marwell Wildlife Awareness of all facilities, exhibits and special events that are ongoing or taking place within Marwell Wildlife Compliance with all existing Health and Safety Regulations as relevant to the post To be a Marwell leader, living our brand values as a role model Any other duty deemed reasonable as required by the Chief Executive The Candidate Qualifications & Experience Page 4 of 6

5 Essential Graduate calibre, qualified accountant. Relevant financial professional qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA or CIMA Experience in running a sizable finance department at senior level, and within an organisation of comparable scale and complexity Commercial management of a varied portfolio, not necessarily limited to Finance, IT, Facilities or Projects Ability to ensure integrity of the financial and commercial information that the business requires Effective track record in people management/ team leadership including coaching, empowering and inspiring others Team player at the highest level, devoted to working effectively though others Experience of running other functions outside of the Finance arena Basic understanding of health and safety requirements Desirable Experience within the voluntary sector and of charity SORP accounting Financial Management of significant capital projects Soft Skills Engenders confidence in own ability and in responsible stewardship of Marwell s financial buoyancy Calm and graceful under pressure Takes a collaborative approach to resolve complex issues, with an ability to influence and an appreciation of the right question to ask High level of self awareness and a willingness to pursue personal development Down to earth, a hands on approach, comfortable working as part of a small team An organisational ambassador for Marwell s personality of being warm, welcoming, wise and contemporary Excellent communication, interpersonal and team skills; high levels of enthusiasm and energy.
