2 Dear Executive, Thank you for your purchase of the 2010 North America Hotel Controller Report. This report has been prepared by our division HCE Data Services TM, the largest hospitality industry resource for compensation information. HCE surveys are conducted for the hotel, gaming and restaurant industries for corporate and unit level positions and include comprehensive data on salary, bonus and benefits gathered from compensation exchanges and public documentation. HVS Executive Search created the HCE to provide hotel owners and operators with current and credible information concerning salary trends. Data for the 2010 North America Hotel Controller Report has been obtained through an online survey. The report includes compensation data from over 2,700 hotels and presents the following information for the Chief Engineer position: Annual Base Annual Cash Bonus Compensation By Room Count Compensation By Hotel Class Compensation By Hotel Type Compensation By Location Compensation by Geographic Region Data is presented in percentile format (25 th percentile, 50 th percentile, 75 th percentile). A percentile is a measure of location in a distribution of numbers that defines the value below which a given percentage of the data fall. For example, the 75 th percentile is the point below which 75% of the data falls. We prefer the percentile format, as it is a better reflection of real compensation levels and is less susceptible to statistical outliers.
