Volunteers help to increase the visibility of the chapter's programs and resources through development and review of print materials, e-communications and social media outreach to AFP members and other audiences. Committee Cycle: Activities and planning take place throughout the year. Time Commitment: The committee meets in person twice a year with phone and communication as needed between meetings. 6 Committee: Conference Leaders Committee Committee Chair: Tomasz Kierul Contact Information: Phone: (201) Committee Description: The Conference Committee is responsible for planning and executing the annual Conference on Philanthropy, the Chapter's signature event. Volunteers are essential in promoting the event and in helping to recruit presenters and speakers who provide valuable educational content for attendees of this conference. Committee Cycle: Planning begins in February with opportunities to participate throughout the year. Time Commitment: The committee meets in person approximately twice a year with bi-weekly calls leading up to the event. 8 Track Chair Job Description SUMMARY Put your passion for advancing the missions of nonprofit organizations to a worthy challenge by joining a volunteer team of development colleagues from throughout greater Boston to plan the 2011 annual AFP Conference on Philanthropy, the largest fundraising conference in New England. You will work closely with conference leadership to develop content and recruit speakers on topics that accommodate the interests and educational needs of a broad spectrum of development professionals. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES - INTENTIONAL SPEAKER RECRUITMENT Assume ownership for an assigned content area, or track. Identify a co-chair, if desired. Develop approximately four 75 minute sessions within your track including content for individuals with various levels of experience and from organizations of different size and type. Review returns from on line Call For Presenters distributed by AFP MA and select to fulfill track If necessary, recruit additional speakers for each session and, in collaboration with them, develop and submit session titles, descriptions and speaker bios within conference planning timelines. Serve as liaison to recruited speakers throughout the planning stage and up to conference day, fielding questions, following up and facilitating communications between speakers and conference planners. DELIVERABLES/OUTCOMES Four well designed sessions on stimulating, relevant topical areas delivered by authoritative and well prepared speakers. o At least one session must be distinctly geared toward early-career professionals. o At least one session must feature a speaker from the senior leadership community. Speakers recruited, session themes determined and titles/descriptions finalized Leadership, engagement, and networking (self, speakers, and other conference volunteers). A short written bio on each speaker to use on the website and in the program Positive experiences by conference attendees and volunteers.

Subcommittee Structure: Subcommittee Members report to the Subcommittee Chair. The Subcommittee Chair reports to the Education Chair.

14 Breakfast Program Subcommittee Chair Job Description SUMMARY Serve as member of the Breakfast Program Committee which is a sub-committee of the AFP Education Committee. The Breakfast Program Committee provides distinctive educational programming to AFP membership and other fundraising professionals in the Boston area. Approximately three programs per year, 2-3 hours in duration, will be offered, to provide unique, high level professional development combined with networking opportunities. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Convene and chair planning meetings of the Subcommittee to determine programs and speakers for the coming year each spring/summer. Guide Subcommittee members responsible for specific monthly meetings to ensure tasks are fully staffed and completed. Coordinate monthly meetings when necessary and when unable to delegate; Be willing to access high level contacts in non profit organizations and for-profit corporations to serve as speakers at monthly events. Work with the Chair of the Education Committee and communicate progress on events throughout the calendar year. Recruit additional volunteers for the Subcommittee as needed. Communicate with the Volunteer Chair the names of Subcommittee members, forward list to Chapter Administrator and Subcommittee members. Work with Chair of the Education Committee to ensure meeting topics integrate well with Brown Bag and other programs. Recognize and thank Subcommittee members at the end of the year and the end of their term. EVENT PLANNING RESPONSIBILITES Working with topics agreed upon at planning meetings. Determining the best speakers who will draw an audience and who will speak well on a topic. Contacting the speaker to make request to appear at event and briefing the speaker on event logistics. Working with Chapter Administrator to plan venue, market event and other event logistics such as A/V needs. Developing the marketing flyer for the event which will also be used on the chapter website. Staffing the event and introducing speaker.

18 Monthly Brown Bag Lunch Program Subcommittee Member Job Description SUMMARY Serves as a member of the Brown Bag Committee of the AFP Education Committee. Contributes to the success of the monthly lunch programs, which are an opportunity for members and non-members to network and learn. These events are also an important outreach tool and source of revenue for the Chapter. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Attend quarterly planning meetings of the Committee to determine programs and speakers for the year. Be willing to access senior contacts in non-profit organizations and for-profit corporations to serve as speakers at monthly events. Be the lead planner for at least one meeting and assist members for a second meeting annually. Work closely with the Education Committee to ensure the event is a success. EVENT PLANNING RESPONSIBILITES Working with topics agreed upon at planning meetings. Determining the best speakers that will attract an audience and speak well on a topic. Contacting potential speaker(s) and asking if he or she will be a presenter at the Brown Bag, and briefing the speaker on event logistics. Working with Chapter Administrator to plan the venue, market the session, and manage other event logistics, including A/V needs. Developing the marketing flyer for the event which will also be used on the chapter website. Staffing the event and introducing speaker. Reviewing electronic evaluations after the session and summarizing feedback for the Committee by or at the next Committee meeting.

22 Diversity Fellowship Program Mentor Job Description PURPOSE OF A MENTOR The AFP Diversity Fellows Program provides the unique opportunity for the relatively new fundraiser to be matched with a seasoned fundraiser who has the skills, knowledge and resources to offer advice and provide one-on-one mentoring. BENEFITS OF BECOMING A MENTOR Creates a relationship that can be both personally and professionally rewarding Multiplies the value of your experience by sharing it with future fundraising leaders and their organizations Learning about Fellow's experiences can help enhance your own skills and abilities QUALIFICATIONS OF A MENTOR Has practiced professional fundraising for six years or more Is an AFP member and embraces and upholds the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards Has the time, ability and availability to support a Fellow effectively ROLE DESCRIPTION A good listener who shares positive reactions and constructive criticism Provides resources and guidance for training and development opportunities Provides exposure, visibility and coaching in support of the Fellow's development Helps to identify options for promoting goals and solving specific problems Encourages Fellow's participation within the professional community Helps to set realistic goals and providing encouragement * Note that the mentor is in a relationship with the Fellow and not the organization, so he or she is not expected to act as a consultant to the organization. TIME COMMITMENT AFP Mentors commit to a two-year mentor relationship, with the goal of connecting monthly with a Fellow via in-person, telephone or meetings. AFP Mentors invited to Fellows to network and socialize with current and past mentors.
