1 GALLERY REGISTRAR (MATERNITY LEAVE COVER) REF: SC3258 The Post Responsible for the administration of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts art collections and artworks under its care, the Gallery Registrar co-ordinates and records all movement of works of art for exhibition; loans; conservation and storage across the whole organisation, ensuring high standards of care. Informal Discussion For an informal discussion please contact Lizzie Brien (PA to the Director and Sainsbury Centre Secretary) on Tel: or The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (SCVA) is one of the most important public university art galleries in Britain. It was founded in 1973 at the University of East Anglia (UEA) with the support of one of the nation s great philanthropic families, Sir Robert and Lady Lisa Sainsbury who donated their extraordinary art collection which includes works dating from prehistory to the late twentieth century from across the globe. The collection includes a significant number of works by modern masters of European art such as Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas, Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Jacob Epstein, Jean Arp, Chaïm Soutine and Amedeo Modigliani. There is also a remarkable collection of art and antiquities dating from prehistory to the late twentieth century from across the globe. There are major holdings from Oceania, Africa, the Americas, Asia, the ancient Mediterranean cultures of Egypt, Greece and Rome, as well as Medieval Europe. There are further collections of Abstract and Constructivist art and also Art Nouveau. The Sainsbury Centre is also a venue for major exhibitions and has one of the largest temporary exhibitions spaces in the UK outside London. It is widely known for the delivery of a wide range of educational and public programmes. The Sainsbury Centre's buildings, collections and activities combine to create a highly valued teaching, learning and research resource both for the region, and the wider national and international community. The Sainsbury Centre building, completed in 1978, is one of Norman Foster s outstanding early works and internationally recognised as a key work of modern British architecture and are much visited by architects and architectural students.

2 The Sainsbury Centre also houses the School of Art History and World Art Studies, the Sainsbury Research Unit for the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas (SRU), it enjoys close relations with the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Culture (SISJAC). As such, it is a major centre for the study of visual culture. Job Description A job description is attached as Appendix A. The precise duties will be agreed in discussion with the Manager. Person Specification The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix B. GENERAL Salary Salary will be 25,728 to 31,604 per annum on Grade 6 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting date The post is available from 13 March 2018 on a full-time basis for a fixed term period to 26 March Terms and Conditions of appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for Secretarial & Clerical staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered. This temporary post is available to cover for the absence of the post holder on maternity leave. The appointment will be terminated (with four weeks notice) at the end of the week immediately preceding the return of the post holder from maternity leave. Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of 25 days plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme.

5 APPENDIX A JOB DESCRIPTION REF: SC3258 Job Title: Gallery Registrar Grade: 6 Department: Reporting to: Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (SCVA) Head of Collections Job Function/Purpose: The Sainsbury Centre Registrar is responsible for the administration of the SCVA art collections and artworks under its care. This includes co-ordinating and recording all movement of works of art for exhibition; loans; conservation and storage across the whole organisation; and to ensure high standards of care. Description of Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for managing all art movements in and out of SCVA. Responsible for the administration of the collections database and associated paper based object records. Coordinate display changes to the permanent Collection and recording location changes. Coordinate and administer the loans out programme from the permanent collection. Coordinating loan requests, liaising with transport companies, ensuring insurances is in place, condition reports and receipt forms are completed. Coordinate and administer loans in for exhibition projects and collection displays: including transport, facility reports, insurance and couriers. Responsible for writing and checking contracts and issuing agreements concerning loans and exhibition projects. Processing new acquisitions: arranging for delivery and insurance and administrating the accessioning process. Other duties Responsible for administrating photographic image assets concerning the Collections and processing photographic requests and copyright clearance. Responsible for special viewing of objects or access to objects in Storage. Responding to general enquires regarding the collections and passing on to relevant member of Curatorial or Collections staff, where appropriate. Assisting with the installation of temporary exhibitions including liaising with couriers, packing and unpacking of works, and preparing and completing condition report forms. Co-ordinating regular Collections meeting. Producing regularly updated loan and display object lists for SCVA staff and SCVA Board.

6 Undertaking a regular audit of art works including those on the UEA campus. Assisting with preventive conservation and maintenance of Collections and display. All role holders are expected to undertake such other appropriate duties as may be requested. The post holder will report to the Head of Collections but will be expected to plan and manage his/her own workload within agreed systems and deadlines. January 2018

7 PERSON SPECIFICATION APPENDIX B Post: Division: Gallery Registrar (Ref: SC3258) Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts Applicants will be expected to demonstrate how they meet the essential criteria for the role and provide evidence to support this. Criteria Essential Desirable Education, Experience & Achievements 1. Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification or experience). 2. Experience of working in a museum or art gallery, preferably in registration or documentation. 3. Experience of the administration of museum databases/collection management systems and associated paper records. 4. Experience of organising art transport, facility reports, insurance and couriers for exhibition projects and collection displays. 5. Experience of loan agreements, exhibition contracts and acquisition procedures. 6. Experience in handling and installing works of art. 7. Educated in Museum Studies, art, art history or closely related discipline within the visual arts preferably at masters level. 8. Previous experience of working as a Gallery Registrar or museum administrator. 9. Experience of writing contracts and agreements. 10. Experience in line management or working in a supervisory capacity. 11. Experience of using e- procurement. Skills & Knowledge 12. IT skills and an understanding of museum databases/collection management systems. 13. Ability to schedule exhibition installations and object moves. 14. Understanding of loan and acquisition administration including loan agreements for exhibition projects and collection displays. 15. Knowledge of administrating digital image assets concerning the Collections and processing photographic requests and copyright clearance. 16. Understanding of the care and sensitivity required when working with valuable and fragile works of art. 21. Understanding of art law including due diligence procedures. 22.
