The appointed candidate will be pivotal to the development and management of the finance function to support the organisation to deliver the business strategy. The successful candidate will work directly with me and the Finance Team ensuring that the organisation has the information and systems to deliver our Charitable objectives. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Reporting To: Director of Finance and Operations Responsible For: Finance Assistant Finance Trainee Overview This post will deputise for the Director of Finance and Operations to oversee the day to day running of the finance office. A large part of the role will be to review our business processes and to rationalise as we upgrade our CRM and finance system and integrate with EPOS and the website. The candidate will be proficient at communicating and networking to provide good finance support to the Education, Communication and Business Development Directorates. Responsibilities Work with the Director of Operations to identify and develop a Business Plan and annual budget. Prepare regular reports and recommendations relating to the achievement of the Business Plan. Preparation of timely and accurate annual accounts, monthly management accounts, forecasts and other financial information required by the Director- General, the Board and relevant Board Committees. Manage and regularly review the ESU s cash flow strategy and position to ensure the ESU s financial security. Work with the external auditors to prepare annual accounts for the approval of the Board. Operate a risk management framework for financial controls with the Director of Finance & Operations. Maintain a regular programme of internal audits, ensuring a risk profile is in place and regularly reviewed. Manage the work of the Accounts Department and ensure that all procedures conform to best practice and that reporting is complete, accurate and timely To be flexible and adaptable in the undertaking of any other related duties.

4 Specific Skills and Experience Essential Graduate calibre and fully qualified accountant. Knowledge of SORP and experience in the Not for Profit sector Experience of Implementing a Purchase order system and integrating Finance with a CRM system. A successful track record in a post which has involved strategic planning, management of financial and accounting services, payroll and other services. Proven experience of managing operational and cultural change, including the successful achievement of large scale projects. The ability to manage staff and contracted parties and suppliers through leadership, motivation, teamwork, supervision and accountability. High degree of commercial awareness and business acumen. To present financial information in a concise and accessible format for nonfinancial managers. Desirable Experience of Sage 200 As the ESU is an international organisation, knowledge of a foreign language will be an asset. Experience of working in a membership organisation. Experience of working with volunteers. General Qualities To support and promote the charitable objectives of the ESU. To act as an ambassador for the ESU in all dealings with external bodies. Hours of Work Normal working hours are thirty five hours per week, and such additional hours as are necessary to fulfil the requirements of this senior management role. It is expected that the post holder will manage their time, workload and resources to deliver the key requirements of the role. Location The location of work is Dartmouth House, although there may be a need to work at other ESU locations from time to time as the job requires. Some overseas travel may be occasionally required. Salary 40,000 per annum.
