Limited reaction even when/ if issues are identified. Ownership: Poorly defined Safety- related roles and responsibilities are not well defined, the Safety Guy owns Safety. Description: Training, processes and routines are focused on achieving compliance to OSHA requirements. Accountability, post-incident, for unsafe actions and behaviors is consistent. Site is reactive to identified opportunities, but rarely identifies proactive opportunities, not focused on cultural issues. Ownership: Associates are trained to compliance programs. Management team drives resolution of safety issues. Description: Systematic and comprehensive approach (people, work processes/systems, leadership, culture, structure, measurement) to building a sustainable safety culture is emerging. Formalized processes and roles are in place and followed to maintain compliance. Measurement focuses on lagging indicators, but beginning to consider leading indicators. Associates accept responsibility for their own safety. Ownership: Facility-wide involvement in Safety Team Frontline associates lead safety processes and audits for their area of responsibility. They have authority to take corrective actions. Strong engagement and support from leadership for associates to take steps needed to provide safe work environment. Description: People, processes, and partnerships are focused on improvement and innovation. Leading indicator metrics are being used to drive the organization toward achieving world class standards. Ownership is beginning to transition from leadership to associate level. Ownership: All associates are highly trained and involved in safety assessments and identification of continuous improvement opportunities, as well as solutions. Description: Focus is on achieving zero defects through embedded safety activities, Zero Is Possible! Associates take responsibility for their own safety as well as the safety of their peers. Peer to peer feedback is frequently given and easily accepted. Ownership: Associates are the driving force for identifying, implementing, and sustaining proactive safety excellence with inspirational leadership and support from top management.
