First, management has to demonstrate its commitment to workplace safety by clearly defining the company s safety goals, communicating those goals to their employees and setting an example for others to follow. The next step is to identify risks and hazards workplace (building design/layout), activity (machinery related) and environmental (air quality/health risks). This is best done with a combination of professional and employee assessments. Once the hazards have been identified, it s time to develop the written programs and procedures. Through this process, necessary employee training will be determined. Once the Program has been implemented, it s vital to evaluate it on an annual basis to assess its effectiveness and modify it as needed. Continued on page 6.
