1 Position description Fundraising Writer/Editor About Redkite Redkite is a leading national charity which provides essential support to children, teenagers and young adults (up to 24 years), and their families, through the difficult cancer journey. Redkite s services: Redkite provides information, counselling, financial assistance and education and career support. We are available from the moment of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. We believe the best way to support a child or young person is to support their whole family and that all families across Australia should have equal access to support no matter where they are located. Reports to: Marketing and Fundraising Strategist Location: Sydney Status: 12-month contract, 3 days per week Direct Reports: None Date Effective: July 2015 Primary Purpose The Fundraising Communications Editor plays a key role in ensuring Redkite has the funds required to support children and young people with cancer. The Fundraising Communications Editor helps Redkite s fundraising team produce exceptional to engage and inspire Redkite s most important potential and current corporate, trust and foundation supporters. This varied role is responsible for writing and editing across a range of materials including pitch documents, donor reports, executive, presentations and internal. The Fundraising Communications Editor is responsible for ensuring these materials are of exceptional quality and exemplify the use of Redkite s unique voice. Page 1 of 5

3 Position Key Result Areas Writing and / or editing fundraising / corporate partner and trust and foundation Executive and CEO Redkite team membership Brand building custodianship Working closely with relevant team members, write and / or edit compelling and engaging pitches and presentations for support from corporates, trusts and foundations. Attend workshops on new pitches and supporter engagement to develop a rich understanding of unique partnership opportunities and bring these to life in relevant. Write and / or edit engaging and relevant stewardship reports to Redkite s treasured Premier, Leading and Major supporters. Draft template cover letters as required for mail outs to Premier, Leading and Major donors. Develop pro-forma template information for use across fundraising materials. Draft and / or edit high level and sophisticated to Redkite s treasured supporters, Regional Councils and Alumni with Redkite s CEO and General Managers as required. Develop messaging for events and publications. Work collaboratively, professionally, efficiently and with warmth across teams and at all levels. Assist Communications Officer (Fundraising) with writing and editing during busy times. Assist with other fundraising pieces as required and directed by manager. Exemplify the use of Redkite s unique voice in all. Champion the development of strategic, on brand and effective. Provide fundraising team with ongoing guidance on grammar, compelling writing and Redkite s voice in order to build team writing skills and brand custodianship. Adhere to, and help to build, Redkite s Writing Style Guide. Other duties as directed by the Marketing & Fundraising Strategist and/or the General Manager, Marketing & Fundraising Page 3 of 5

5 Key Competencies and Experience Qualifications and training Qualifications or training in writing, editing, or a related field or over 4 years professional writing and editing experience. Experience and knowledge Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills. Extensive experience and proven success creating compelling content for diverse audiences using different styles. Experience writing Executive-level including letters and speeches. Experience working to internal brand and writing style guides and understanding of their importance. Proven success creating compelling with strictly limited word counts. Demonstrated success working with diverse range of internal stakeholders to produce high quality. Proven track record in managing the creation of materials to deadline including reports, letters, presentations and print collateral. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with shifting and short deadlines. Advanced user of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Desirable Experience writing for a not-for-profit and specifically to donor and partner audiences. Competencies and personal attributes Ability to create materials to drive donor engagement. Ability to master and champion Redkite s unique voice in all. Excellent eye for detail and natural tendency to pick up on the grammatical errors. Ability to work collaboratively. Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to offer ongoing coaching, guidance and mentoring on writing. An understanding of, and passion for, brand integrity.
