Hawthorn-Melbourne is recruiting for the position of Principal to manage all aspects of the provision of education and support services, and to ensure that Hawthorn-Melbourne enjoys the highest standards of leadership in interaction with the University of Melbourne and other international education stakeholders. Selection Criteria Essential Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field. Ten years' relevant ELT experience, including at least five in a management capacity. Extensive professional experience with General English, Exam Preparation, English for Specific Purposes and Pre-sessional Academic Pathway courses, their development, management and governance within contemporary best practice. Detailed understanding of relevant ELT industry regulatory frameworks. Demonstrated track record of excellence in relationship management with international education stakeholders. Extensive international education industry network. High-level management and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and challenge, and the capacity to drive effective change management and high levels of stakeholder engagement. High-level conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills combined with the ability to adapt and to implement new systems and processes in response to environmental demands. Demonstrated experience in effectively managing budgets and resources to achieve strong commercial outcomes. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate, consult, negotiate, and problem solve with a diverse range of staff and other stakeholders. Outstanding written and oral communication, analytic and presentation skills, including advanced MS Office skills. Overview and Objectives of the Position The Principal leads and manages the successful provision of ELICOS education and support services at Hawthorn Melbourne: to an industry-leading standard of quality as evidenced in surveys of student satisfaction in accordance with the requirements of the ESOS regulatory environment in successful partnership with the University of Melbourne within agreed KPI and financial parameters. The Principal has line management responsibility for all educational delivery, management and student services staff, including program development, student services and admissions, with indirect line management of Hawthornbased marketing staff. With other senior managers, and as part of the ELICOS senior management team, the Principal is responsible for the development and maintenance of in an industry-leading working environment, able to attract and retain the best staff. The Principal works closely with other Hawthorn-Melbourne and ELICOS managers, with colleagues in the English and Careers (E&C) business unit, University Partnerships Australasia (UPA) Division, and with other internal and external stakeholders including from the University of Melbourne - in pursuit of these objectives. 2. 3 3. Key Result Areas A. Centre management Ensures the effective management of Hawthorn-Melbourne, establishing, driving and monitoring the successful delivery of educational, student, admissions and administrative services, by: overseeing the planning, coordination, standardisation and evaluation of education service delivery ensuring systems, tools, procedures and organisational capacity are in place to deliver high quality, standardised education services with the Principals, ELICOS, establishing and monitoring DoS performance targets and KPIs with the Director, ELICOS, developing and maintaining efficient management and administrative systems maintaining effective intra-group communication processes and forums among centre staff establishing, monitoring, and seeking continuous improvement of quality standards in education service delivery, including managing ongoing surveying and analysis of student satisfaction contributing to the design and management of education projects, including the development of new courses with the Director of Marketing, ensuring new products and services are commercially sound and effectively marketed ensuring the admissions team are operating effectively ensuring student service delivery (homestay, student activities, library services, etc.) is responsive to client needs and cost-effective. B. Financial monitoring and review With the Director, ELICOS, ensures the successful financial performance of Hawthorn-Melbourne by: with the Business Manager, E&C, preparing Hawthorn Rolling Plans, completing re-forecasts throughout the year establishing financial and operational targets within defined and agreed parameters monitoring and reviewing revenue and volume projections monitoring and managing financial performance, taking responsibility for the commercial outcomes of the centre with the Director of Admissions and Business Improvement, overseeing the management of agent and student debts forecasting future demand and allocating resources efficiently, maximising premises utilisation implementing delegated business unit strategic initiatives. C. Human Resources Ensures the highest standard of staff and human resources management, by: overseeing the recruitment and retention of high quality education and general staff with Group HR, ensuring the implementation of effective human resource management practices, including performance management overseeing professional development programs for staff, including administering the budget for external training implementing and modelling high standards of work performance fully briefing ongoing and acting successors to this position and to any roles reporting to this position ensuring that staff are effectively inducted, trained, motivated and afforded equal employment opportunity.

Strategy and Marketing Contributes to successful business strategies and marketing by: contributing to E&C strategic, marketing and operational planning contributing to the continuing development of growth strategies for Hawthorn-Melbourne contributing to the development of marketing plans and marketing strategies with the Director, ELICOS, developing and analysing new business opportunities ensuring effective collaboration between operations and marketing in the initiation of and management of new products and services, in line with client expectations undertaking effective marketing and related travel, from time-to-time. E. Representation of Hawthorn Melbourne With the Director, ELICOS, ensures that Hawthorn-Melbourne is consistently represented to the highest standards: in all forums involving the University of Melbourne within ELICOS, E&C, UPA and the Navitas Group at relevant industry forums and conferences in day-to-day dealings with peers, competitors, regulatory bodies, students and agents. 4. Compliance Leads the maintenance of compliance in the commercial and regulatory environment in which Navitas operates. Actively contributes to the maintenance of client privacy by: Ensuring privacy regulations are understood and implemented Ensuring client records and personal information are stored securely according to Navitas privacy policy Cooperating with other staff and external agencies in a way which ensures Hawthorn-Melbourne complies with privacy regulations. Actively contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment by: Maintaining local workplaces that are safe and with minimised risks to health Ensuring relevant occupational health and safety regulations are complied with Contributing to the provision of information, training and supervision necessary to safeguard the health and safety of employees.
