1 Town of Arnprior 2019 Summer Student Employment Opportunities The Town of Arnprior is currently inviting students to apply for 2019 summer employment opportunities. There are a number of positions available over the summer months in various departments including Operations, Recreation, Town Clerk s Office, Museum and Library. Eligibility In order to qualify for a position, students must be: At least 16 years of age or older; Enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program on a full-time basis; and Returning to school on a full-time basis following their summer employment. Conditional Requirements A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required for positions working with members of the public (all ages). A job offer is contingent upon receiving a satisfactory VSC. A VSC valid within the past 12 months is acceptable. For positions with access to Town vehicles, the student must have a valid G driver s license in good standing. Employment Opportunities Please note that the wage, term and schedule for summer student positions are subject to Council approval of the 2019 budget. The Library and Museum positions, terms and schedules are dependent on grant funding from Young Canada Works, Canada Summer Jobs and the Government of Ontario s Summer Experience program through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Government Services. Administrative Assistant Student will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Clerk s department. This includes assisting with the preparation of correspondence, cemetery and Operations department administration, registrations, licensing, records management and assisting the public by phone, and in person. This position requires both strong organizational and customer service skills and the ability to prioritize varying demands while working with both internal and external clients. Experience and/or education in office or business administration, records management, Word and Excel are an asset. Records Management Assistant Student will assist with the records management for the Clerk s department and other departments as required. Tasks will include the scanning of documents, electronic file management utilizing a data management tool, and shredding. Requirement to provide reception support, which involves assisting the public by phone, and in person. Experience and/or education in office or business administration, records management, Word and Excel are an asset.

3 Children s Program Coordinator Student will be responsible for the planning and delivery of summer programs at the Library. Proven supervisory, organizational and interpersonal skills are required as well as experience working with children. Previous work experience in a Public Library setting is an asset. 10 week term (June to August) $15.40 per hour Children s Programming Assistant There is a requirement for two Assistants who will assist with the planning and delivery of summer programs at the Library. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required along with experience working with children week term (depending on grant funding) Museum Summer Program Coordinator Student will create, plan and deliver a fun and imaginative children s summer program. The student will be a team leader responsible for summer programs and will administer the Museum in the absence of the Curator and Administrative Assistant. Demonstrated experience with children, strong organizational skills and the ability to work with the public are required. Knowledge of local and Canadian history would be an asset. 14 week term (May to August) 30 hours per week $15.40 per hour Museum Collections Assistant Student will perform general curatorial duties including collections and record management, artefact conservation, and exhibit design. The student will also assist with a children s summer program several days a week. Experience with children and working with the public is required and knowledge of local and Canadian history would be an asset. 12 week term (June to August) 30 hours per week

4 Museum Assistant Student will assist with running a children s program and provide general museum duties. Ability to work with children and the public are required. General computer skills and knowledge of local and Canadian history would be an asset. 10 week term (June to August) 30 hours per week Marketing Assistant Working with the Marketing and Economic Development Officer the student will assist with outreach to the public at summer events, prepare, coordinate and advertise the Sunday Market to potential vendors and visitors and operate the booth at the Market, interact with the public in answering enquiries and assist with other projects as required. 16 week term (May to September) GIS Engineering Assistant Student will assist Operations engineering staff with the updating and enhancing the Town s GIS database and assist with other administrative duties. Education in GIS, engineering, science or technology, ArcGIS, Word and Excel are an asset. $14.70 per hour Labourer There is a requirement for two Labourers to assist Operations, Roads and Services staff with a variety of duties including road and sidewalk construction/repair, cemetery maintenance, surveying and completing conditions surveys. Valid G driver s license, experience in construction and operating park maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers, weed eater, etc. are an asset. 16 week term 42.5 hours per week

5 Downtown Summer Labourer Student will assist Operations, Roads and Services staff with keeping the downtown, municipal parking lots, Town Hall, Library and Museum clean and presentable. Duties will include sweeping, cleaning and gardening. The position will also act as a community resource by responding to public enquiries and directing them to the Clerk s office. Valid G driver s license, experience in labour, maintenance, horticulture and customer service are an asset hours per week Waterfront Summer Labourer Student will assist the Operations staff with keeping the waterfront, beaches, and municipal parks clean and presentable. Duties will include cleaning and gardening. The position will also act as a community resource by responding to public enquiries and directing them to the Clerk s office. Valid G driver s license, experience in labour, maintenance, horticulture and customer service are an asset hours per week Horticultural/Arborist Assistant Student will assist the Operations staff in various functions including the development of a tree inventory and mapping program to respond to the Emerald Ash borer infestation. Valid G driver s license, knowledge of plant/tree identification, integrated pest management and plant/tree health care is essential. Horticultural Parks Attendant Working with the Operations staff the student will be responsible for planting and maintaining flowerbeds in parks and municipal grounds. Knowledge of horticulture, plant identification, integrated pest management and plant health care are essential. Valid G driver s license, experience with grass cutting equipment and the ability to work well with the public, staff and volunteers is an asset. Enrollment in a post-secondary program in horticulture or urban forestry is ideal. $ $16.89 per hour

6 Parks Attendant There is a requirement for six Parks Attendants who will work with the Operations team to perform maintenance for all parks, playgrounds, beaches, walking trails and ball diamonds. Minimum of grade 11 completion is required. Valid G driver s license, experience with grass cutting equipment and the ability to work well with the public, staff and volunteers is an asset. Summer Program Coordinator There is a requirement for two Summer Program Coordinators who will be key members of the Recreation Program team. This position is responsible for all aspects of seasonal programming for children, including Camp Wanago, as well as special events and projects. The students will develop, plan, implement, control and evaluate relevant programs; train and provide leadership to subordinate staff; and work closely with the Supervisor of Programs to ensure quality, safety and innovation. A valid G driver s license and use of a vehicle, CPR/First Aid training, previous experience in children s programming and sports would be considered assets. 15 week term (May to August) (May to June) and (July to August) $15.40 per hour Day Camp Counsellor There is a requirement for four Day Camp Counsellors. Working under the direction of the Summer Program Coordinators, the students will provide direct leadership to Camp Wanago summer day camps and occasionally other recreational programs offered by the Recreation department, for all segments of the community. The responsibilities will include general supervision, all while maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone involved. This position will also provide ongoing customer service to participants; assist with general setup and cleanup of programs spaces, ensuring they are safe and tidy. Previous experience working with children and CPR/First Aid training are an asset. 9 week term (June to August)
