3 Who we are The department within Cooss 2

4 COOSS Marche Onlus is a type A social cooperative. It is a non-profit-organisation that since 1979 provides health, social, care and educational services. The services offered by COOSS are directed at persons in need: older people, physically and mentally disabled people, children and minors, non-eu citizens, the unemployed, people experiencing pathological addiction, prisoners and ex-prisoners and in general all those in need of professional assistance. COOSS has today over 2,500 members/employees, including carers, educators and professionals who provide services to approximately 8,000 users. The continuous evolution and development of COOSS has led to the creation in 1993 of the Research and Training Department, which is responsible for designing and managing research, and training in the social, health, educational sectors and for promoting vocational guidance and implementing interventions at the local level. The Department is organized into four interconnected units: - Research Unit - Training Unit - Professional Guidance and Employment Unit - Territorial Interventions Unit The four units are supported by the Reporting and Administrative Office in charge of the accounting and of the economic and financial management of the Department.

6 The Research Unit studies current and emerging social phenomena, identifies and tests innovative approaches at national and European level, with the aim of improving the services offered and the expertise of COOSS members, through the transfer and application of know-how in the territories where it operates. The research, analysis, innovation and experimentation projects of the Research Unit are co-financed by EU and national funds. Expertise and know-how The Research Unit of the Department possesses consolidated experience, knowledge and skills in: Analysis of the needs and expectations of users / beneficiaries, definition of possible solutions; Research and development of models and processes of social intervention and training; Analysis and evaluation of good practices; Experimentation, validation and testing of innovative solutions and approaches; Implementation of campaigns for the dissemination, awareness raising, information and promotion of research activities; Evaluation of activities, results and impacts, with respect to the models and processes of social intervention and training.

7 The Department participates in many relevant projects funded by European programmes, as partner and/or leader (applicant), in the following areas: Framework Programmes FP, such as FPIV, FPV and FPVII; Competitiveness and Innovation Programme ICT Policy Support Programme (CIP-ICT PSP); Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP); Horizon 2020; etc. RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION Life Long Learning Programme, European Integration Fund, European Social Fund; ErasmusPlus; etc. VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING INTERREG IIIA, IPA Adriatic CBC, EuropeAid, etc. DEVELOPMENT AND COOPERATION Progress, Daphne, Equal, Youth in Action, Europe for citizens, etc. CHALLENGES OF THE SOCIETY AND SOCIAL POLICIES

8 Research and Technological Innovation Programmes: with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with high fragility (above all older and disabled people), by means of innovative technologies. In this context, COOSS plays an important role of mediation between new technological solutions and end-users. Examples of the Research and Technological Innovation projects are: CAREGIVERSPRO-MMD Self-management interventions and mutual assistance community services, HORIZON 2020), to support and improve the quality of life of people with mild to moderate dementia and their caregivers. FATE (Fall Detector for the Elder, CIP ICT-PSP), to detect, monitor and send alerts in case of fall of the older people. E-NO FALLS (European Network for Falls Prevention and Security, CIP ICT-PSP), to introduce new technologies in the systems and practices of prevention of fall of the older people.

9 Vocational Education and Training Programmes: with the aim of promoting lifelong learning and thus contributing to the improvement of the practices of education and training, with special attention to the health and social care sectors. Examples of the Vocational Education and Training projects are: ECETIS (European Competences Evaluation: Training Integrated Scheme, LLP), to develop a methodological scheme for skills assessment. OPC SFC (Outil Pédagogique Clé - Savoir Faire Comportementaux, LLP), to define criteria and evaluation standards of behavioural skills in working contexts. DIVERSITIES@WORK (Reducing LGBT discrimination and improving diversity at work, Erasmus+), to introduce educational and training models that improve LGBT Diversity policies in the workplace.

10 Development and Cooperation Programmes: with the aim of strengthening cooperation with the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion, the Mediterranean area and the world, as an opportunity for sustainable and inclusive growth. Examples of the Development and Cooperation projects are: AdriHealthMob (Adriatic Model of Sustainable Mobility in Health and Care Sector, IPA Adriatic CBC), to improve access to health and social services in the Adriatic area, by means of new technologies and sustainable mobility. Circuito do Saber e da Inclusão (Europe- Aid), for the development of training models and work inclusion for vulnerable young people and at risk. ADRIATIC WELFARE MIX (Developing and integrating the Welfare Systems toward a Welfare Mix System, IPA Adriatic CBC), to promote the social enterprise model in welfare systems.

11 Programmes addressing the Challenges of the Society and Social Policy: with the aim of finding innovative solutions and effective responses to emerging issues related to employment, social inclusion and integration of the workforce. Examples of the Social Policies and Challenges projects are: Let s get active! (Incentives for citizens active participation in the democratic life of the European Union, Europe for Citizens), to support the active participation of vulnerable groups. GWS (Green and White Skills for new jobs, Progress), to define new job profiles and related training in the area of personal care services, as job opportunities for young people. EAN (European Antibullying Network, Daphne III), to exploit and enhance within a European network projects and experiences in the prevention and fight against bullying (PEAB and ATTEMPT previous projects).

13 The Training Unit designs and implements training activities in the field of health care and social services. Training has always been at the core of the activities of the Department and COOSS as a whole. The activities carried out are directed towards both COOSS members and persons outside the cooperative, widening the pool of action at regional and national level. The training Unit: - promotes lifelong learning and the use of ICT in education and training; - offers training courses aimed at providing employment for young people and unemployed adults; - organizes refresher/updating courses for workers in the sector; - runs refresher/updating and specialisation courses for COOSS members in order to continuously improve their professional skills; - cooperates with the Research Unit in the framework of European projects aimed at education and training; - carries out research on the labour market, training needs, innovative teaching techniques and evaluation of training.

14 The training activity is directed at the production areas in which COOSS operates, allowing the qualification and specialization of the professionals involved in the provision of services. The transfer of knowledge and skills covers the following areas: Social Assistance area: dedicated to the development of basic skills related to direct assistance to people in need (family caregivers, carers, etc.); Socio-Educational area: dedicated to the development of skills allowing to fulfil educational, accompanying and supporting roles (educators, entertainers, pet therapy operators, operators for disability and autism, etc.); Health and Social Care areas: dedicated to the development of skills pertaining to the area of health and social care (health and social care operators, dental assistants, etc.); Training and Learning area: dedicated to the development and testing of methodologies, tools and best practices (skills assessment, introduction of ICT in learning, etc.). Health and safety area: dedicated to the development of skills resulting from legal requirements on safety (first aid, hygiene, privacy, fire emergency, safety at work, Health and Safety manager, etc.)

15 The investment of COOSS in education and training has made COOSS a leading entity at regional level on health care and social issues. This result has been achieved thanks to the staff professionalism and the availability of modern training rooms and appropriate teaching methods; in particular, information technology and multimedia tools that allow e-learning teaching. Over the past decade, the Department has provided over 400,000 hours of training, with more than 250,000 hours of refresher lectures directed at its members for over 200 courses. 17 The Professional Guidance and Employment Unit mission is to accompany people in the definition of a professional project, particularly through the development and promotion of individual paths of professional training and active job search. This unit designs surveys and analysis in order to investigate and constantly monitor changes and supplies of the labour market, with the support of the whole Department that has been active for many years in the field of social and labour inclusion of people with high fragility (the disabled people, immigrants, prisoners, etc.). The integration between the Department units and the constant exchanges at the local, national and European level, have led to the development of a system of diversified services focused on users needs. More specifically, the Professional Guidance and Employment Unit guarantees the provision of different services according to different types of recipients: a. Services to people First reception and Information Drafting CV and detection of the needs Vocational guidance and counselling (training and jobs) Skills assessment Promotion of agreements for the launch of apprenticeships and internships Matching labour demand and supply

Services to companies Promotion of business services and scouting Information and access to services Consulting and support activities regarding the need for training and Human Resources inclusion Matching labour demand and supply c. Relationships amongst Citizens and Companies and with the Public Network Mediation, as an accredited institution, as for information, access, participation and management of initiatives supported by public funds (scholarships, work grants, Civil Service, Local / Regional / National / EU Programmes, etc.) In particular: Contact point for "Youth Guarantee" Information point for regional and national Civil Service

20 The Territorial Interventions Unit focuses on the development and implementation of projects and services at the local level, that generate a strong impact in the productive areas in which COOSS operates. Such initiatives are financed by regional, ministerial and private funds, and they are carried out in close cooperation and synergy with the actors of the third sector The overall goal is to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions, employment and inclusion of persons who are in a state of need, to take charge of situations at risk of exclusion and marginalization and to produce a concrete and visible impact on the territory, communities, families and individuals. The main areas of intervention are: - Pathological addictions (street units, therapeutic placements, etc.); - Social inclusion of vulnerable people (disabled people, former prisoners, minors, migrants, etc.); - Inclusion in the labour market and/or social inclusion (prisoners, drug addicted, the disabled, children in difficult situations, etc.); - Vocational education and training for adult (citizenship education, Italian language - L2, enhancement of knowledge acquired in informal and non-formal contexts, etc.); - Reconciliation of private life and work (positive actions and good practices of diversity management, etc.); - Preventing and combating discrimination in every form (awareness campaigns, guidance and listening, integration services, etc.). The actions developed and implemented from the Territorial Interventions Unit are funded and co-funded by local / national calls, sectorial laws and contributions from: Marche region, Territorial Social Areas, local authorities, banking foundations, major private national groups, ministries (and their regional branches), Azienda Sanitaria Unica (ASUR Health agency), public and private entities (foundations, associations, networks, etc.) and more.

21 NETWORKS AND COLLABORATIONS The Department cooperates, at regional and national levels, with universities, schools, the Marche Region and local bodies and authorities, the regional health system and in particular with the ASUR Marche (Regional Health agency), with prisons, the PRAP (Regional Superintendence of Penitentiary Activities) and the USSM (Juvenile Social Services Office). It has developed strong relations with the cooperative and entrepreneurial system, with voluntary and social development associations, and with many other subjects of the Third Sector. In this, COOSS and the Department share mission and mode of action in order to respond to the general interests of the community and to enhance the social inclusion and the integration in the labour market of the citizens.
