3 Statement of continuing support for the Global Compact form the First General Manager Stopanska Banka AD Skopje, in 2004 and 2005 took active part of the United Nation s Global Compact Programme, hereby committing to uphold its Ten Principles pertaining to human rights, labor and environmental standards and anticorruption. We aim to foster sustainable growth by supporting the values, which are core in creating responsible global corporate citizenship. 4 HUMAN RIGHTS Principle 1. Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within their sphere of influence; and Principle 2. Businesses should make sure they are not complicit in human rights abuse. A. COMMITMENT AND SYSTEMS The 3 year Business Plan of Stopanska Banka AD-Skopje, forecasts the business operations of the Bank and sets aside funds for community investments and training and education of employees. I. PRACTICAL ACTION Clear rules and regulations and strict standards for doing business; Well implemented human rights protection policy, and developed health and safety management system, strengthening the rights on: equality, security, personal and economic, social and cultural freedom; Transparency in operations (disclosure though annual financial reports, other releases on the website, official statements etc.); Equal approach opportunity to the Bank s products and services; Grants and scholarships to students, financial awards to top class students; Donations and sponsorships in cultural, educational, environmental programs and events, youth programs etc. LABOR STANDARDS Principle 3. Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; Principle 4. Elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor; Principle 5. Effective abolition of child labor; and Principle 6. Eliminate discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. B. COMMITMENT AND SYSTEMS SB respects the right of its employees on membership in the Labor Union It creates conditions for association of employees in the Bank premises and financially supports the functioning of Labor Union; The Bank regulates the labor contracts with employees in accordance with the collective agreement which is fully in compliance with the Labor Law of the Republic of Macedonia; SB is committed to enable and support professional development of its employees; The key aspect of SB's open culture is keeping its employees informed and involved; Global Compact - Communication on Progress 2005 page 4

5 Whistle Blowing Policy, adopted in II. PRACTICAL ACTION Presently one Labor Union organization operates within the Bank. The Bank has collectively bargained and signed collective agreements with Financial Institutions Labor Union; No discrimination on grounds of holding membership in the Union in the career progression; Employment and career advancement non-discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, political opinion, national extraction or social origin; Program for education of the employees in the country and abroad; Sport and recreation programs at least twice per year; Annual medical examination for all SB employees; The Whistle Blowing Policy assures protection of employees who attempt to bring fraud to the attention they are able to report unethical practice without fear of reprisal. ENVIRONMENT Principle 7. Business should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; Principle 8. Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and Principle 9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmental friendly technologies. C. COMMITMENT AND SYSTEMS SB shall constrain itself from providing financial support to projects that are harmful from an ecological point of view; SB is bound to full compliance with EBRD environment standards in the definition of its credit policy; SB is building awareness of its employees about the importance of energy savings and other environmentally sensitive issues. III. PRACTICAL ACTION The Bank s credit policy forbids approval of loans that are not consistent with the country environmental standards; Replenishment of the internal paper communication with electronic communication; Use of recycling paper; Promotion of the use of E-banking; Global Compact - Communication on Progress 2005 page 5

6 Numerous donations in environment friendly projects. FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION Principle 10. Business should work against corruption in all forms, including extortion and bribery. D. COMMITMENT AND SYSTEMS SB is committed to the highest standards of Corporate Governance; SB gives the highest priority on strengthening the independent Internal Audit function; Statute of Stopanska Banka AD Skopje SB is bound to undertake measures and activities in order to detect and prevent money laundering in all parts of its operations such as: identification of clients, monitoring, collecting and keeping of transaction data, cooperation with competent bodies, keeping as a business secret the data provided on the basis of the existing legal regulations on prevention of money laundering, introduction of internal programs on prevention of money laundering, etc. Internal Regulation on Money Laundering Prevention of SB; Know Your Customer Policy of Stopanska Banka AD. IV. PRACTICAL ACTION The Code of Ethics of the employees of the Bank; An ethic address for reporting suspected violations and associated use statistics; SB developed a number of procedures that standardize operations in the Bank and divide the decision power among different bodies, thus providing for additional "checks and balances" Multilevel control system for money laundering combat on individual and NBG Group level; SB employees are trained with respect on money laundering detection and prevention. 7 MEASUREMENT OF OUTCOMES Freedom of association of employees results in 970 members of Labor Union of SB; SB approved paid leave and sponsored the participation of 65 employees on the Banking Labor Union sports games; In 2005, SB spent EUR 114 thousands on training and education of its employees. During the year, the Bank financed or supported post-graduate education of 18 employees (10 on domestic Universities and 8 abroad) and studies for gaining professional degrees of 20 employees; Department for Training and Development organized 32 seminars attended by 412 employees in the areas of customer care, sales and marketing, micro lending, IT and software, leadership and management; SB sponsored language courses for 110 employees; Out of 16 Senior and Line Managers, 10 are Women; In 2005, 970 employees of SB used the right of annual medical examination, fully financed by the Bank.
