28 Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) The practical application of skills to the job of being a doctor Link the theoretical framework of competencies and milestones to the daily tasks of practice Disciplines identify EPAs that residents must be able to perform within each stage of training. clinically relevant and specific to the discipline. reflect multiple milestones across several of the CanMEDS Roles.

29 How are EPAs used? Used by residents and supervisors to focus teaching and learning in the clinical setting Units of clinical activity which are observed and assessed in the workplace. Resident and supervisor identify opportunities to teach and learn from EPAs in the clinical setting One EPA may mark the achievement of the multiple milestones

30 Examples of EPAs Leading the code team Providing anesthetic care for ASA 1 and 2 patients undergoing general surgical procedures Proposing and implementing management plans for patients with standard presentations of cancer Assessing and providing comprehensive management for patients with airway obstruction, including both medical and surgical treatment 30
