Know appropriate roles and skills required for the enterprise activity 3. Understand the costs involved in producing and selling a product or service 4. Know appropriate promotional techniques Evidence requirements 1. 11 Unit content This section provides guidance on the recommended knowledge and skills required to enable you to achieve each of the learning outcomes in this unit. Your tutor/assessor will ensure you have the opportunity to cover all of the unit content. Outcome 1: Know how to select a suitable enterprise activity Strengths and weaknesses of generated ideas: Product and service demand, product and service innovation, competitors, cost of resources (materials, location/facility and equipment, workforce/ labour/manpower). Outcome 2: Know appropriate roles and skills required for the enterprise activity Roles: Project manager, marketing/sales coordinator, finance manager/officer, site/ production manager. Skills: Communication, negotiating skills, product/service knowledge, presentation skills/delivery of sales pitches, budgeting and financial planning, time management and organisation. UV

12 Outcome 3: Understand the costs involved in producing and selling a product or service Costs: Production costs (labour costs, equipment, materials and facilities), selling costs (marketing/advertising materials), staff costs, promotional costs (live demonstrations of products/services) and costs of facilities. Product and service pricing: Basic calculations that take account of production and selling costs whilst making a profit, priced competitively against rival products/ services, profit making. Outcome 4: Know appropriate promotional techniques Promotional materials: Posters, flyers and leaflets, DVDs/CDs, business cards, bookmarks, pens. Promotional methods: Leaflet drop, newspaper/magazine advertisements, television and radio advertisements, endorsement and sponsorship, exhibitions and events, special discounts and offers. 10 UV10355
