2 ADULT EDUCATION We offer full credit High School courses to complete your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or upgrade for post-secondary education. Computer Training: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows 10, Internet and are offered at the Beginner level BTT1O (Information and Communication Technology in Business) and at the Intermediate level BTA3O (Information and Communication Technology: The Digital Environment). All classes are instructor led and certificates are provided upon successful completion. The instruction is based on the Ontario Secondary School curriculum and funded by the Ministry of Education as a secondary school credit. Co-op Program allows you to earn high school credits through the skills you are gaining through hands-on work experience. Earn credits while you work or volunteer! Interested in online training for WHMIS, Smart Serve or Food Safety Training? Purchase your tokens through Adult Education Reception (cash or cheque) and get started! ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) Communication is an important skill to enable newcomers to integrate into their community and secure employment. All ESL learners complete a comprehensive Needs Assessment which is used to guide the task-based learning that occurs in our classrooms. Learners work to create a portfolio that showcases improvement in reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The use of ipads and Smartboard technology ensures development of technology skills along with language skills. If you are new to Canada or have been living here awhile, but need to improve your English (both written and verbal), please contact The Centre for Employment & Learning nearest you to find out when and where ESL classes are held. ESL classes are available in the daytime and evening hours. All ESL services are free to those who qualify! ANYTIME ESL - ONLINE For a newcomer who can't attend an ESL class to improve their English skills, Anytime ESL can be the solution. The Anytime ESL Program is an online English as a Second Language program. Its target audience is newcomer adults at Canadian Language Benchmark levels 1-5. Learners will complete short courses while receiving support from an ESL instructor. Learners will also work to create an online portfolio to showcase improvement in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. If you are new to Canada and are interested in learning English online, please visit to find out more. Interested learners should have a working address, access to the internet and an appropriate device as well as some proficiency using a computer or tablet. 3 THE LEARNINGHUB, e-channel The LearningHUB is a free program that provides flexible, online opportunities to upgrade reading, writing, math, computer and other essential workplace skills so you can: Work toward a Secondary School credit course Prepare for the General Education Development (GED) test Be better prepared to get a job or perform better in an existing job Prepare to enter a college, university, or apprenticeship program Empower yourself to reach life goals Online upgrading can be done through Anytime Learning Courses or Live Classes. Live Classes are popular with learners who prefer to work in a group and get immediate feedback from an instructor. Anytime Learning Courses (including short courses) are popular with learners who prefer to work on their own, at their own pace with support from an instructor. The LearningHUB is ideal for those who cannot access regular classroom programming for various reasons (i.e. transportation, child care, program availability). 4 SKILLS UPGRADING AND READINESS PROGRAM (SURP) For adults wanting to upgrade reading, writing, math, computer and workplace-specific skills to: Be better prepared to get a job or promotion Work towards a Grade 12 diploma or High School equivalency: General Education Development (GED) Enter a college, university, or apprenticeship program Set and manage goals Work and communicate effectively with others Be more independent Learners work at their own pace on goal-specific activities with direction from their instructor. Come in for an assessment to determine the path that s best for you. All SURP services are free! EMPLOYMENT SERVICES FREE WORKSHOPS (Connect with your local Centre to register) This Employment Ontario Program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario. RESUME and COVER LETTER WORKSHOP Learn how to develop a resume that showcases your skills, lead to interviews and job offers! This is an interactive workshop where you use a laptop to create your winning resume. Bring your current resume (digital format if possible). JET START YOUR JOB SEARCH Experts say only 25% of jobs are ever advertised. This workshop teaches you how to find those hidden jobs. IS SECOND CAREER RIGHT FOR YOU? Find out if you qualify for up to $28,000 in funding through the Government of Ontario, Second Career Program. Learn how to prepare for training and how to start your research. INTERVIEW WORKSHOP Learn how to ace the interview and land the job. This interactive workshop presents the tips and tricks that you need to know to be successful in your next interview. 5 EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (Cont d) EMPLOYMENT COUNSELLORS An employment counsellor can help you develop an individualized Employment Action Plan. That plan could include: Career assessments and tools to help you set short term and long term goals Evaluation of your job search skills and your job search tool kit (resume, interview skills, portfolio, cover letter) Provide information about different careers and occupations Help you identify and address barriers to employment Identification of employment and training opportunities Details and facts on the local and regional labour market Information about all Employment Ontario programs and services, as well as advice about and referral information to other community services and support JOB DEVELOPMENT Having a hard time finding a job? Our job development team is out connecting with local employers to identify hidden job opportunities. They work closely with both employers and job seekers to ensure the right fit for long term employment. Talk to your employment counsellor to see if you are ready to work with the team. JOB MATCHING, PLACEMENT & INCENTIVES (JMPI) The program supports eligible employers to offset training and hiring costs while assisting job seekers to gain valuable experience and skills. The amount of the incentive is linked to the job description, participants skills, training and support required, and the duration of the program. SECOND CAREER Second Career provides financial support to eligible and suitable laid-off workers to upgrade their skills for employment. Second Career provides up to $28,000 to support tuition, travel, books, and other training-related costs. Additional funds may be available for people with disabilities, and for people who need help to pay for academic upgrading, the costs of living away from home, or child care. Training can take place at an approved Private Career College or Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology and must lead to a certificate or diploma. Part time and online training is allowable. 6 EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (Cont d) FEE PAYER If you are currently receiving regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, and want to upgrade your education or employment skills, the Feepayer program can help you. This program offers you a chance to attend training while you still qualify to receive your regular EI benefits. You must be prepared to pay your own training expenses and have a current EI claim. An application for training is dependent on developing an employment action plan that identifies a lack of skills as a barrier to employment. Please contact one of our Centres to set up an appointment with an employment counsellor for further information. APPRENTICESHIP The Apprenticeship Scholarship provides $1000 to support individuals who require upgrading to meet the academic eligibility requirements for apprenticeship training in their chosen trade. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements and complete the Apprenticeship Scholarship application to be considered for this funding. A $2000 Apprenticeship Employer Signing Bonus is available to employers who hire, register and train an apprentice as part of their participation in the Job Matching, Placement and Incentives program. To qualify, employers must meet eligibility requirements. YOUTH JOB CONNECTION Who Is Eligible? Youth can access the Youth Job Connection program if they are: Between 15 and 29 years of age Resident of Ontario Eligible to work in Canada Unemployed Not participating in full time training or education What Are The Benefits To Youth? Participate in 60 hours of paid pre-employment training Workplace experience through paid job placements in sectors of interest Access to supports for work clothing, equipment, child care, and/or transportation Receive employment mentorship and guidance What Are The Benefits To Employers? Access to newly trained candidates Wage reimbursements up to 26 week period Funding for additional training Job coaching and mentorship available 6 P a g e

7 EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (Cont d) YOUTH JOB CONNECTION - SUMMER This program helps secondary students find summer and/or part-time after school employment. Who Is Eligible? Youth can access the Youth Job Connection program if they are: Between 15 and 18 years of age Resident of Ontario Eligible to work in Canada Currently enrolled in education What Are The Benefits To Youth? Participate in 20 hours of paid pre-employment training Workplace experience through paid job placements in sectors of interest Access to supports for work clothing, equipment, child care, and/or transportation Receive employment mentorship and guidance What Are The Benefits To Employers? Access to newly trained candidates for part time and summer positions Wage reimbursements up to 8 week period Job coaching and mentorship available to support trainees YOUTH JOB LINK YJL offers support to individuals ages who need some assistance in finding employment. Individuals can schedule appointments with employment staff to receive support and information on: Resume and Cover Letter Writing Interview Skills Job Search Strategies Employability Skills Workplace Health and Safety Up to $300 in employment and training supports is available for individuals who work with the Centres to find their very first job. 7 P a g e

8 EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (Cont d) EMPLOYING YOUNG TALENT INCENTIVE EYTI offers a $2,000 grant for hiring and retaining a young person (15 to 29 years old) who is referred to you by The Centre for Employment and Learning staff. As an employer you may be eligible if you are: a small business with fewer than 100 employees, through Employment Ontario Services an employer of any size, through Youth Job Connection REACH FOR SUCCESS Reach for Success is an employability through work experience project funded by the Government of Canada s Skills Link Program. The project will assist youth by providing a 4 week paid group-based employability skills workshop series followed by 8 weeks of paid work experience. Who Is Eligible? Youth can access Reach for Success if they are: Between 15 and 30 years of age Out of school and in need of assistance to gain workplace skills and experience Legally entitled to work in Canada CANADA-ONTARIO JOB GRANT (COJG) The Canada-Ontario Job Grant reimburses employers for eligible training costs to a maximum of $10,000 for existing employees. Large employers ( >99 employees) can receive approximately 50% of approved training costs while small employers qualify for approximately 83%. Funding can go as high as $15,000 with reimbursement of 100% if the employer chooses to train and hire someone who is unemployed. In all cases an application must happen prior to training and is dependent on funding. We can also, help your company connect with unemployed workers to train for your job openings.
