1 Lead Integrator, Accelerator The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Lead integrator. Description of directorate/division ESS is seeking a Lead Integrator in Accelerator Integration Support for it s Integrated Control System (ICS) division. The ESS accelerator, a pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5 MW average power proton beam, driving the world s brightest neutron source. The ICS will control the ESS accelerator, target, neutron instruments and conventional facilities. 5 Radioactive Waste Manager The Infrastructure Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Radioactive Waste Manager (RWM). Description of directorate/division The Environment, Safety & Health Division within the Infrastructure Directorate is responsible of the activities connected to safety (radiology, dosimetry, occupational safety, fire protection, emissions) for the personnel as well as to the public. We are also planning for the future handling of the radioactive waste. Description of main responsibilities The RWM will be a part of the Environment, Safety & Health Divisions (ESH) as being the expert at ESS of the radioactive waste produced at the facility and how to handle it. The RWM will be responsible for the future contracts with supporting contractors of the rad waste handling. The RWM will support the ESH division in their contacts and reporting to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. Qualifications We believe you have at least 10 years working experience, with at least five of those years in the field of radioactive waste handling. You have a general understanding of Swedish and international legislation of Radioactive Waste. Furthermore you have management experience and/or project management experience and you are used in performing analyses. You work in a systematic way, have good organisational and report writing skills. Have good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. 7 Senior Engineer The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Senior Engineer. Description of division The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the ESS accelerator, in collaboration with partner institutions and with other divisions of the ESS. Deputy Work Package Managers within the Specialized Technical Services Group facilitate the project governance and project management of external Work Packages (WPs) on behalf of the ACCSYS Project leader and his/her management team. The Deputy Leader also facilitates communication between external WPs and the ACCSYS management team and internal WPs. The Deputy Leader serves as: a primary facilitator to create and maintain liaison and communication between members of external WPs and members of internal WPs. In particular, the Deputy Leader must ensure efficient dialogue between Lund-based and externally-based engineers and the timely exchange of technical data to progress planned activities and to achieve WP and Project-level milestones. the external WP Leader representative reporting WP performance via monthly reporting to ACCSYS management team the ACCSYS management team s primary representative overseeing the work planned and performed by external WPs and primary channel for communicating ACCSYS directives, policies, instructions and information input to external WPs Main responsibilities ensuring that an appropriate agreement instrument exists between ESS and the ESS Collaboration Partner, In-Kind Contributor or procurement contractor for planning, executing and reporting external WPs activities and deliverable ensuring that external WP Leaders and their work unit managers have agreed and understood; scopes of work, time schedule including milestones, the budget and other resources allocated creating and maintaining; WP descriptions, along with the ACCSYS planning Manager, maintain the Primavera P6 time schedule of external work package activities, milestones and resourcing information participating in ACCSYS project support / WP Leader meetings as a delegate for external WP Leaders and to represent their interests at this meeting communicating work directives, scope clarifications, and other instructions from ACCSYS management team to external WPs monthly reporting of the status of the performance of scope and schedule progress, including earned value management information, seeking and using input information from external WPs faithfully conveying to ACCSYS management team issues, concerns or difficulties raised by external WP Leaders impacting their performance or schedule progress Qualifications:

9 Senior Mechanical Engineer - (CAD) Plant Integration The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Senior Mechanical Engineer - (CAD) Plant Integration. Description of directorate/division ESS centralized Integration and Engineering Support Division is part of the ESS Machine Directorate. The I&ES Division is a service provider of engineers and designers for the ESS project for in-house design activities as well as activities performed by collaborating organisations. The I&ES Division is responsible for development and maintenance of the design processes including accommodation and maintenance of design systems and tools. The I&ES Division is also responsible for the management of the Product Data Management System, the integrated CAD-model at ESS, the ESS Plant Layout (EPL) and classification and standardisation of e.g. components and materials. Description of main responsibilities In this role you will be managing and maintaining the ESS Plant Layout (EPL) model and control interdisciplinary files exchange at the EPL level. You will have the following responsibilities: Provide all levels of ESS with advice, information and other resources as appropriate for proper Integration of the ESS 3D Master model Assist ESS Management in Integration of the ESS 3D Master model or authoring these documents as assigned by ESS Management Review proposed designs, procedures and practices for Integration of the ESS 3D Master model and related quality Advise the group leader, division head and the ESS Management on progress toward completion or monitoring of programme schedules of Integration of the ESS 3D Master model System owner of the integrated 3D Master model (ESS Plant Layout), responsible for the integration, configuration and conformity control Develop and maintain the Master model of the integrated ESS Baseline, identify and set associated rules, norms and standards Perform configuration and conformity control between the 3D Master model and real facility Special focus of the communication between the different projects relating to the baseline and base-line changes, affecting the delivery of the ESS project Qualifications Bachelor in mechanical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and design experience Experience in mechanical engineering of complex engineering problems Experience in a 3D CAD software (Catia V6 preferred, V5 acceptable) Knowledge of the technical concepts of drafting plus basic engineering principles, codes and standards required Ability to analyze and solve basic mechanical engineering problems using strength of materials and materials selection principles Experience of working in an international environment is essential Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage You as a person: To be successful and perform well in this position, you are a skilled and trustworthy communicator with the ability to establish and facilitate good cooperation and communication. 13 Vacuum Systems Engineer The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Vacuum Systems Engineer. Description of directorate/division The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the ESS accelerator, in collaboration with partner institutions and with other divisions of the ESS. The vacuum team in the Specialized Technical Services Group is responsible for all technical vacuum systems at ESS working alongside partner institutions and other groups in the Accelerator, Target and Instruments and Neutron Beams Divisions developing the design of these systems including the definition of interfaces with other groups. The team is also responsible for the specification and procurement of vacuum equipment and the installation and commissioning of these vacuum systems during the construction of ESS. Main responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for/or participate in; The liaison with partner institutions including the attendance at coordination meetings, witness of testing and other associate activities The preparation and development of vacuum system requirements specifications and other related documentation The design and integration of the ESS vacuum systems operating in the rough through to the ultra high vacuum (UHV) regimes The preparation, review and approval of technical documentation in support of the procurement of parts and equipment The preparation and development of integrated installation, test, and commissioning plans for both vacuum and other related systems The oversight of manufacturers during the fabrication of vacuum components and equipment; reviewing and approving manufacturing plans and other vendor documentation, monitoring quality and witnessing of acceptance tests at the vendors' premises The technical support and oversight during the assembly, installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of accelerator, target and instrument vacuum and other related systems Identification and implementation of R&D activities needed to support vacuum system operations and upgrades The development of budgets, schedules and plans in support of vacuum system operations and developments and implementing of these plans within budgetary and schedule constraints The oversight of vacuum technicians and technical associates in all matters related to vacuum system engineering and operations. Compliance with environmental, safety, health and quality program requirements. Qualifications A degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field with a least 5 years experience in the design, construction and operation of vacuum systems and hardware, related control and data acquisition systems or an equivalent combination of both education and experience. Prior experience in the managing of technicians and subcontractors responsible for fabricating, installing, commissioning and operating vacuum systems is desirable. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, be computer literate and proficient using MS Office and MathCad etc. and able to perform vacuum systems analysis and have a working knowledge in heat transfer and stress analysis. Familiarization and a working knowledge of Molflow and other vacuum analysis programs would be advantageous.
