Supervisor Posn # : What is the function/mission of your department? The Center for Innovation (CI) helps innovators, students and entrepreneurs grow new and emerging ventures and bring new products and technologies to market. The Center enables successful product and company launches by providing early-stage launch guidance, strategies to securing funding, technical assistance as well as accessing the talent, technology and training at the University of North Dakota. The Center also provides market research support and feasibility evaluation services. As an unbiased, third party outreach service organization, the Center helps determine if a proposed venture or product can reach a potential market and generate a profit. The Center operates two start up business incubators, Skalicky and Ina Mae Rude, managed by the CI staff. The incubators offer space and workstations and the CI staff provide entrepreneurs with coaching services on a regular basis to help in the startup of their ventures. CI also sponsors and arranges workshops, outside speakers, and other special events aimed at honoring business success, promoting entrepreneurship, training innovative skills, and other educational opportunities for entrepreneurs. The Center for Innovation also manages special projects as needed to promote, assist, and facilitate the development and growth of innovation, small business and entrepreneurial ventures in North Dakota. 14. What is the purpose of your position? (Why does the position exist, how does the position function within the work unit?) The position is located at the UND Center for Innovation, managing a federal grant-funded program to deliver technical assistance and training programs to innovators and entrepreneurs focused primarily on commercialization and business expansion within the autonomous systems (UAS) industry. There is a secondary focus on developing a workforce to support the UAS industry. This position will support CI clients and regional partners who are seeking assistance with UAS commercialization or venture startup or expansion. This position will also collaborate with local, regional and statewide partners in the UAS sector to develop commercialization and training opportunities for the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This includes working with student experiential learning opportunities, student entrepreneurs, and networking with local, state and federal resources to enhance the ecosystem for business development. 15. No Encourage business expansion through identification and recruitment of entrepreneur clients with specific focus on autonomous systems. 1. Coordinate with University stakeholders and external partners to identify innovations or activities with potential for commercialization in the UAS industry sector. 2. Recruit, screen and assess statewide UAS industry sector to identify prospective entrepreneur clients for Center for Innovation services and programs through personal visits, , videoconference and telephone meetings. 3. Schedule, plan and implement fact-finding meetings with prospective clients. 4. Identify and foster a network of UAS commercialization resources and develop an ecosystem map to support the entrepreneurial life cycle. 5. Obtain the information needed to determine the best course of action and service support needs for each prospective client. 6. Follow up, maintain accurate documentation and track outcomes. No Coordinate and lead UAS Commercialization Rapid Response Teams to meet business expansion goals and provide services to clients. 1. Lead the development of individualized commercialization plans for clients with technical assistance services including, but not limited to: concept development, market research, customer discovery, patent and trademark searches, commercialization plans, business plan, access to capital, mentoring and business consulting, acceleration and incubation. 2. Provide autonomous systems industry cluster clients and others with commercialization and venture development education and technical assistance services. 3. Coach and monitor progress of clients. 4. Provide clients with venture coaching and education to support commercialization and business expansion. 5. Work as either a team leader or team member with University partners and external partners 6. Refer clients to Center for Innovation programs such as business incubation, Small Business Innovative Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR), and InnovateND when appropriate. 7. Facilitate client connections with state and federal resources as needed. 8. Lead and advise clients in goal-setting activities. 9. Follow up, maintain accurate documentation and track outcomes. 2

3 No Mentor student interns and student entrepreneurs seeking services from the Center for Innovation to develop businesses ideas in the autonomous systems industry sector and related areas.. 1. Provide student interns and student entrepreneurs with venture development coaching and education in the areas of formation, growth and financing. 2. Refer interns and student entrepreneurs to Center for Innovation programs such as business incubation, Small Business Innovative Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR), and InnovateND when appropriate. 3. Identify and develop experiential, project-based learning internships with UAS businesses for students to apply and develop professional skills appropriate for this industry sector. 4. Supervise intern(s) hired to support the EDA grant and UAS commercialization University Center project. 5. Follow up, maintain accurate documentation and track outcomes. No Identify, develop and foster a network of mentor and commercialization ecosystem resources with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, investors and others in the autonomous systems industry. 1. Develop, maintain and engage a network of valuable members of the autonomous system industry cluster. 2. Gather information as needed to maintain current contact data and information on the interest areas of stakeholders. 3. Keep these constituents informed of University Center and Center for Innovation activities and client programs and services. 4. Utilize the expertise of stakeholders as advisors and mentors as needed to help identify prospective clients, to assist individual clients in the autonomous systems industry cluster, and create internship opportunities. 5. Market and promote network and commercialization resources as appropriate to clients. 6. Follow up, maintain accurate documentation and track outcomes. No Essential Secondary Plan events, coordinate meetings, workshops and represent the University Center for Autonomous Systems and the Center for Innovation. 1. Work as either a team leader with coworkers and external partners to plan events, coordinate meetings and host workshops that further the mission of the University Center for Autonomous Systems and Center for Innovation. 2. Reserve facilities, obtain equipment and supplies, prepare materials, promote events and work at events as needed. 3. Follow up, maintain accurate documentation and track outcomes. 4. Work as an individual, a team leader or team member with coworkers and external partners to represent and market the University Center and UND Center for Innovation at trade shows, conferences, professional associations and other activities. 5.
