Success Factors PPP Step 2 Approve goals and BCs (Manager step) A manager guide to setting and approving PPP goals and BCs for your team members Karen Williams 1 July 2018

Step 2: Approve goals and BCs Manager Step Step 2 is where you can review, edit and approve your team member s goals and BCs: The goals describe what your team member needs to achieve in the coming year The BCs describe how they should behave to be effective Choosing the right goals and BCs is important because they help you and your team member understand exactly what is expected of them to perform effectively If you and your team member create specific, detailed and measurable goals and choose the right BCs at the start of the year, it is much easier for you to provide feedback and rate performance accurately at the end of the year 2

Setting goals Consider: What are the most important things your team member needs to achieve in the coming year? What standards do they need to meet? Quality? Quantity? Cost? Time? What will they need to be successful (tools, resources, support or development)? What does good look like? How will you both know when they ve been successful or exceeded their goals? Effective goals should: Be measurable in terms of quality and quantity Be clear, specific and unambiguous Make it clear when the end result is to be achieved Typically everyone should have around 5-8 goals each year 3

Setting goals tips Meet with other managers in your department/area and consider together what the team/function need to achieve and then cascade accordingly Ask colleagues to critique goals you have set for your team. Share with wider teams to ensure alignment Ask around! Most jobs in LR have more than one person doing them somewhere in the world someone else might already have written a goal you can adapt. Or use the goal library in Success Factors for template examples. Use Yammer or your own network of colleagues to find examples of goals for generic roles such as surveyors, assessors, administrators, project or people managers, sales leads etc. You don t have to do it all by yourself; work together with the individual to create effective goals give them an idea of your thoughts, ask them to have a go at writing them and then add any extra elements or standards you think are needed 4

Choosing BCs for PPP The BCs have been revised from 1 st July 2018 There are eight BCs applicable to all roles in LR For PPP, each team member should choose a minimum of 4 BCs as a focus These should be based on which are considered most critical for success or most important to the successful achievement of PPP goals For each BC individuals should select the right level for their job grade Use the revised BC Dictionary for guidance 5

Using the PPP system (Success Factors (SF)) for Step 2 When your team member has completed Step 1, their PPP form will appear as a link in your Success Factors TO DO tile on the homepage; click on the link to open the form. Alternatively, it will be accessible through your Performance page (click on drop down arrow at the top of SF page) First review the goals each team member should typically have around 5 or 6 goals (but no more than 8) You can add comments, edit them using the pencil button or add one using the Add Goal button Review the BCs and levels they have chosen; you can add comments or add one using the Add Behavioural Competency button Each team member should have a minimum of 4 BCs in their PPP 6

Using Success Factors for Step 2 (continued) You can also review the Development section, edit any development goals your team member has created, or add your own. You can also assign specific learning from the Learning catalogue. Finally, at the bottom of the form you have several choices: If you want to send the form back to the team member for changes before approving it, click the Return for Edits button If you want to seek input from another manager regards setting one or more goals (e.g. a project manager your team member will be working with), click the Get Feedback button you can choose which manager to send the form to and you can call the form back at any time If you are happy to approve the goals and BCs, click the orange button Goals Agreed and Set to move the form to the next step (Step 3) 7
