General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position Under general supervision and in collaboration with division and departmental staff, this position is responsible for the recruitment and retention of volunteers for parks, trails and waterways to help achieve the mission of the Department and Parks and Recreation Division. This position also serves as a liaison for Friends Groups and Campground Hosts aligning with Michigan state parks, trails and waterways. This position coordinates donor relationships and recognition to foster sustainable support for division managed places, programs and projects. It is the responsibility of this position to foster positive, ongoing relationships with individuals who choose to donate their time, talent and financial resources to parks, trails and waterways as part of the division s ongoing effort to make these destinations self-sustaining.

The total percentage of all duties performed must equal 100 percent. Duty 1 General Summary: Percentage: 40 Coordinate Parks and Recreation volunteer recruitment and retention Duty 2 Create and facilitate a volunteer recruitment strategy that appeals to our current base of volunteers, but also engages the next generation and increases diversity in volunteer efforts. Establish and facilitate a division-wide tracking system to measure volunteer efforts Collaborate with division staff to create and facilitate a standardized volunteer recognition strategy across all division volunteer efforts. This should then be expanded to department-level coordination with divisional volunteer coordinators. Assist in creating a messaging/marketing strategy to recruit and recognize volunteer efforts. This includes identifying great stories of individual contributions as well as telling the story of our volunteer efforts statewide through internal and external communications. Collaborate with Resource Development Specialist to implement a corporate social responsibility initiative to maximize corporate volunteer opportunities. General Summary: Percentage: 30 Provide support and direction for Friends Groups, Adopt-A-Park and Campground Host programs Duty 3 Serve as convener of the divisional Volunteer Committee. This includes soliciting new members, establishing a meeting schedule, and setting priorities. In collaboration with division and departmental staff, coordinate the annual Friends Group Summit and Campground Host training events and evaluate effectiveness or opportunities for improvement. Create and facilitate a Campground Host recruitment strategy that appeals to our current base of volunteers, but also engages the next generation and increases diversity in volunteer efforts. Identify on-going development and training opportunities for Friends and Volunteers. Attend Friends Group meetings in a manner that is strategic Revitalize the Adopt-a-Park program to encourage program ownership in every state park and state forest campground. Develop and establish an encompassing umbrella Friends Group for the Division; to assist with programs and projects slated over multiple units. Facilitate the completion of Friends Group agreements to empower Friends to seek grant and other funding opportunities to support mutually-agreed upon goals. Provide support in sharing the accomplishments of our Friends and Hosts to recognize their efforts through internal and external communications. General Summary: Percentage: 20 Assist with donor engagement efforts Facilitate the donor engagement platform, providing campaign reports and overviews from the software. Assist with the procurement and contract implementation of this software as need arises. Insure that all volunteer and donor information online is up-to-date and relevant to current initiatives. Identify opportunities for donor recruitment. Assist in vetting local champions for fundraising initiatives. Review and edit communications related to volunteer and donor initiatives.

3 Duty 5 General Summary: Percentage: 10 Other duties as assigned. Plan and execute special events when requested, staff shows as needed, attend meetings relevant to subject matter. Coordinate with Division exhibition efforts representing PRD, such as Michigan Association of Recreational Vehicles and Camping, to include scheduling, staffing, materials, displays, and coordinating with show staff. Work alongside Department coordinators for DNR shows to provide support and materials. 16. Describe the types of decisions made independently in this position and tell who or what is affected by those decisions. Develop survey methods for program evaluation. Develop elements of a volunteer training program for special events and program facilitation training. Facilitate events and programs with meeting mission related goals. Identifying the stories that warrant internal and external messaging.

4 17. Describe the types of decisions that require the supervisor's review. Large program expenditures above $2,500 Proposed initiatives where the goal may not obviously further the declared mission of the Division or the Department. Final agreement with any partnership 18. What kind of physical effort is used to perform this job? What environmental conditions in this position physically exposed to on the job? Indicate the amount of time and intensity of each activity and condition. Refer to instructions. Physical activities will include standing, sitting, bending and computer use. Environmental conditions will include exposure to outdoor elements, i.e. sun, wind, snow, rain, and plant life. Position duties may require participation in outdoor recreation activities such as paddling, hiking, or camping. Occasional overnight travel, and evening and weekend duty is required. This job is partially an office related position and partially a field/travel position. It requires long periods at the computer which may cause eye strain and affect mobility in the hands, arms, neck and shoulders. There are seasonal periods that will cause increased stress due to workload and meeting deadlines. 19. Yes. 23. What are the essential functions of this position? It is essential this position must be able to execute all the physical requirements listed under section 18. This position must also must be able to clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing; use a computer and telephone; maintain a calm professional demeanor during confrontational situations; be able to use personal protective equipment in accordance with department policies, federal law and health department laws; maintain a valid and current Michigan Driver s License. Indicate specifically how the position's duties and responsibilities have changed since the position was last reviewed. This position has been adjusted to have more of the fund development opportunities moved to the Division s Recreation Development Specialist (Programing Specialist 13). The PD still has a role in the coordination of the facilitation the internal structure of the

5 development side but will work more closely with the Division s specialist.. This for the position to focus on volunteer recruitment and retention, and individual donor engagement support. 25. What is the function of the work area and how does this position fit into that function? The function of the Parks and Recreation Division is to acquire, maintain, and make available for the use of the public, open space and water access for recreation, or the preservation of natural beauty or natural features possessing historic information or association. The function of this position is to establish and develop strategies to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities through increased revenue and relevance through volunteer relationships. This position stimulates visitor use including underrepresented populations and identifies and enriches overall recreation opportunities. 26. What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position. EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelor's degree in any area. EXPERIENCE: Equivalent of 3 years work experience in the area of coordinating volunteer efforts or fund raising for an association for a non-profit, government, or a professional agency KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as basic CRM. Ability to plan, coordinate and expedite work projects. Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing (strong proficiency in this is a requirement for success). Ability to plan, direct and coordinate program and administrative activities.
