Agile Behaviors - Background Manifesto for Agile Software Development We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value: Individuals and interactions over processes and tools Working software over comprehensive documentation Customer collaboration over contract negotiation Responding to change over following a plan That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

Agile Behaviors 1. People-focused Self-managed teams, flexible to address uncertainty 2. Iterative Planning Extreme communication (Scrum meetings, frequent feedback) 3. Focus on creating early and constant business value Most important needs addressed fast and first (user stories) 4. Agile is a way of thinking, not just doing Change in culture, leadership, metrics 5. Trust is essential Fail early and often, teams empowered

Team Expectations and Agile Behaviors Responsibility Self-managing, surface risks, ground rules, all lead, break down barriers, make decisions, question everything Accountability Team owns vision, commits to amount of product, delivers on commitment, make rapid changes Development Motivated individuals, team is engine for project, empower, engage, individual motivations, team and individual growth, experienced members

Starting Agile Projects Initiating High complex high uncertainty, develop project vision, create charter, identify stakeholders, in first iteration determine product Planning Definition of done, release plan, rolling wave/progressive elaboration, determine next most important thing, plan for continuous improvement

Delivering Agile Projects Value Satisfy customer, product more important than process, deliver early and often, facilitated conversations with stakeholders, reprioritize Simplicity Maximize work not done, eliminate waste, solve problems, progressively document deliverables Risk Frequent feedback reduces risk, conflicts are over development process, business process, people Improvement Document and improve process, reflect, learn, grow, embrace innovation
