1 Position: Geotechnical Engineer Career progression level: 4/5 Location: Reports to: Purpose: Terrace, British Columbia, Canada Project Manager - Terrace The primary purpose of this position is to undertake engineering research, assessments, report preparation, proposal preparation, etc. as requested by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Department Manager. This is accomplished by utilizing technical and Project Management principles to understand the work assignment, time management, schedule, and external/internal communications. The Geotechnical Engineer is a technical position and has significant impact with external clients and internal team members. Support of the Opus Vision, Mission and Values and the QMS bring value through action and results. Key Responsibility Areas These describe the main types of outcomes expected of the position, i.e. the key areas of work activity in which the job holder is expected to achieve results. Key Responsibility Area Client Relationships Develop and maintain internal and external client relationships. Support the Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Department Manager in client meetings and activities. Support growth and diversification through attitude and action.

2 Build, maintain and strengthen positive relationships with clients. Provide effective and timely client contact, follow-up and gathering of feedback. Prepare proposals through well-managed team coordination and energetic efforts. Key Responsibility Area Project Management Use exceptional Project Management for the delivery of products and services. Following the requirements of OurWay, act as Project Manager or Task Manager for projects, ensuring that all deliverables meet client's explicit and implicit needs. This will include budgets, deadlines, project audits, briefs and health and safety plan. Manage client expectations, scope creep and scope changes through active communication in order to achieve Opus project level profitability targets (Gross Margin). Provide input to project teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality. Assist with ensuring projects have appropriate inputs and outputs, as well as appropriate audits, verification and technical reviews undertaken and follow-up action is completed as required. Ensure the right level of skill and appropriate resources are available to carry out the project to completion. Manage resources both locally and remotely to achieve project milestones. Develop a complete scope definition and identify changes to scope, and implement actions to meet project objectives. Ensure these are communicated to the project team, including external sub-consultants. Provide good practice risk identification, contract and communication, and implement meaningful strategies to meet project objectives. Ensure project legal documents are appropriately reviewed, completed, signed and retained on project files. Actively seek feedback from clients and project teams reflecting on the performance of the team and apply knowledge learning principles. Key Responsibility Area Leadership Contribute to developing strategy and tactics for our business that supports the vision for our environmental business. Lead, mentor and manage the resources of your projects. Participate in the development of the Engineering Best Practices Manual, Standard Operating Procedures and other QMS related policies/procedures related to Engineering. Undertake, document and report safety hazard assessments for all field working days. Work collaboratively with other team members Foster the desired company culture through effective role modelling and effective and inclusive management practices. Key Responsibility Area Technical/Service Delivery Provide input into the planning of projects and assisting project managers to correctly scope out projects, with appropriate inputs, outputs and verification activities. 3 Supervision of small to medium size Geotechnical/Slope Stability Investigation projects. Review and write geotechnical/slope stability investigation reports. Supervise and direct Junior Geotechnical Engineers and Technicians. Construction site inspection and QA/QC supervision. As assigned, manage client expectations, scope creep and scope changes through active communication and actions in order to achieve Opus project profitability targets (Gross Margin). Ensure exceptional communication with clients and internal team members to ensure timely flow of information, actions, deliverables, effort (time) and timelines. Ensure Professional Permit (ie. APEGA) processes are followed for the delivery of products and services. Ensure that all project deliverables meet or exceed industry and OSW standards for quality. Ensure the QMS, Industry and OSW standards are met or exceeded. Complete engineering studies and assessments assigned by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Department Manager. Undertake self-study, research, and review to build technical knowledge and share information with team members. Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with appropriate professional and technical standards and practices and meets the requirements of OurWay. Key Responsibility Area Business Development Develop and maintain a professional profile with key clients and the planning community generally. Maintain appropriate high level contact with specified clients and maximize opportunities to apprise them of the value of our services, particularly timeliness of delivery and innovation. Identify market opportunities and undertake/support marketing initiatives, to fully exploit the resources and special skills of the group, and help develop and promote new, innovative, environmental services to both internal and external clients. Ensure an excellent service delivery to client to promote repeat and uncompetitive work. Key Responsibility Area Human Resource Management Take a lead role in mentoring of staff and assisting them in the development of their skills. Identify and attract high quality new staff from outside Opus to build team capability and capacity. Nurture, encourage and develop a strong team spirit and office culture. Contribute to an environment in which staff are given the opportunities and challenges required to stimulate their development and achieve their full potential. Behaviours B.Sc. or post-graduate degree in Civil and/or Geotechnical Engineering P. Eng. Designation (e.g. APEGBC) or eligibility to register in province of practice Current Drivers Licence. At least 7+ years of professional experience; with a strong theoretical background in geotechnical engineering Knowledge of laws, regulations, statutes, and codes pertaining to design and construction. Knowledge of GeoStudio, WEAP, tanks settlement analysis, slope stability analysis, and shallow/deep foundations analysis. Strong organizational ability to optimize and prioritize conflicting demands in a busy environment, to achieve deadlines and see responsibilities through to completion. Good analytical skills and attention to detail. Good interpersonal and communication skills, including oral and written communication and particularly the ability to present ideas, information and advice in a way that is understandable by a range of audiences. Results orientated, with a reputation for, and demonstrated achievement of, key strategic priorities. Able to work to deadlines and see tasks through to completion.
