1 Position Description Peppercorn Services Incorporated Position Title: Family Support Worker Program: Peppercorn Children & Families Position Purpose: Family Workers provide the effective delivery of services and supports to children, families and the community, with responsibility for: Early Intervention for Vulnerable Families using tailored, strengthsbased, family-centred approaches that are supported by evidence, and focussed on creating and facilitating positive change; Developmental Group Work for Children and Families through evidence-based parenting programs that build resilience and competence in parenting practices; and Family Support Administration by ensuring that family support and interventions meet practice standards and quality accreditation standards. Family Workers are often the first point of contact for families and children interacting with our services and must provide a positive and helpful response to each person. Actively implement and promote PSInc s Code of Conduct. Take appropriate action to ensure a workplace free from corruption, maladministration and serious and substantial waste. Ensure that work is proactively planned, goal or outcome oriented, measured for success, and reported Engage in regular reflection of work practice and relationships Actively develop relationships with peers, other employees and volunteers, and stakeholders Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and extended family networks, other service providers and support networks. 3 Key Accountability Area Early Intervention for Vulnerable Families Developmental Group Work for Children and Families Family Support Administration Continuous Quality Improvement Compliance Specific Tasks and Responsibilities Implement solution-focussed, person-centred, holistic, strengthsbased service provision Provide early intervention family work in homes, community centres, and outreach venues Collaborate with clients to provide flexible, individualised family supports that meet their needs (co-design) Attend management meetings to monitor and review progress of vulnerable families Provide on-going support, resources and information to clients and families in ways that enable them to be as independent and self-determined as possible Develop and implement parenting programs which incorporate the five key development areas for children Develop and implement parenting programs that assist parents to develop their skills, knowledge and parenting practices Support and facilitate positive interactions between parents / carers and their children Provide early intervention family work in group settings in community centres and outreach venues Actively encourage children and families to participate in community activities to reinforce resilience and parenting capacity Ensure that all family support and intervention plans are appropriate and comprehensive / complete Seek advice for all complex, high-need or high-risk families Ensure family work meets practice standards and quality accreditation standards Support the promotion, understanding and implementation of person-centred practice and family supports Ensure the accurate and efficient entry of all client information into the relevant client management system Actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement strategies to ensure that quality standards and service goals are met. Identify ineffective and/or inefficient processes and recommend improvements. Encourage and assist peers to work towards the achievement and maintenance of quality standards. Actively participate in the development and review of PSInc Policies & Procedures Comply with the requirements of PSInc Policies & Procedures Ensure that all monthly reporting deadlines are met Page 3 of 6

5 Key Selection Criteria Knowledge, skills and experience Essential Desirable Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable families Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience of strengthsbased and solution-focused strategies. Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues Ability to work respectfully with families, including those from culturally and socially diverse backgrounds Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and with a team Demonstrated general computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word and client management systems and databases Demonstrated experience facilitating playgroups and parenting groups. Demonstrated experience in liaising with other professionals and agencies to deliver collaborative services Qualifications, licences and registrations Essential Desirable Diploma/Degree in Social Welfare/Work, Behavioural Sciences, Early Childhood Education or any other relevant qualification. Current Class C NSW Drivers Licence (unrestricted) First Aid Certificate Cert IV in Community Services or Diploma in Community Services Other position requirements Essential Desirable Personal Qualities looked for in all employees National Criminal History, Working With Children and RMS Driving Record Checks must be completed before employment Candidate must have access to and use of a comprehensively insured motor vehicle to fulfil inherent requirements of this role An understanding of the legislation and statutory requirements associated with the provision of services for young families, older people, people with disabilities and their carers An open, helpful and respectful attitude toward the requirements of the position and the people with whom you work.
