The Director initiates, directs and sustains a college-wide, comprehensive strategic marketing plan coordinating all aspects of internal and external communications including news media relations, government relations and a diverse array of publications. The Director serves as the College s Public Information Officer (PIO) and is a member of the President s Cabinet. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in marketing, communications, business or closely related field Three years of progressively responsible management experience with an emphasis in public relations and marketing or a closely related field SALARY/BENEFITS Hiring range is $55,000 - $60,000 Benefits include paid holidays, annual and sick leave, medical insurance, and participation in the N.C. The Director initiates, directs and sustains a collegewide, comprehensive strategic marketing plan coordinating all aspects of internal and external communications including news media relations, government relations and a diverse array of publications. The Director serves as the College s Public Information Officer (PIO) and is a member of the President s Cabinet. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (List the major functional elements of the position. Under each, describe the required duties, tasks and responsibilities of the work assigned. Develops, implements and evaluates the College s strategic marketing plan and targeted enrollment initiatives, using data and input from the college, community, partner stakeholders, peer institutions and higher education research Develops and sustains a comprehensive internal and external communications plan/calendar Oversees strategic implementation of college-wide electronic/social media initiatives Develops campaign planners for recruitment advertising Maintains effective relationships with media entities Serves as the College s Legislative Liaison with correspondence, s, telephone calls, etc. to a variety of local, state and federal legislative contacts Makes legislative inquires on behalf of the President to local, state and federal authorities and responds to legislative inquiries from municipal, county and state leaders and congressional legislative delegations Coordinates legislative events such as invitations, room reservations, catering, audio/visual needs, parking and security Negotiates advertising contracts Directs the preparation, review, production and distribution of the College s print and electronic publications, news releases, articles, announcements, talking points, presentations and other oral/written communications Works closely with Deans and other education programming coordinators to find high-impact promotion solutions to achieve enrollment goals Confers with the President and Executive Leadership Team regarding communications in response to public relations needs; serves as the official College spokesperson Establishes, cultivates and sustains partnerships with various internal constituency groups and personnel to determine the need for college-wide and specific program/service-related marketing; creates and initiates marketing and promotional campaigns to meet such needs Oversees attendance, photography, media, coverage/reporting for College events, functions and activities Establishes, nurtures and maintains positive external relationships with individuals, businesses and communitybased organizations that support the College s outreach efforts Manages, monitors and reports an annual marketing budget Selects, supervises, trains, motivates and evaluates marketing staff

4 Page 4 Provides direct supervision and evaluation of assigned staff Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College s mission, core values and goals List equipment used in job and frequency of use. Typical office environment MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in marketing, communications, business or closely related field Three years of progressively responsible management experience with an emphasis in public relations and marketing or a closely related field Required knowledge, skills and working abilities: Knowledge Marketing theories and practices Theory and practices related to advertising, printing, publications production and mass communication Brand creation and management Generally-accepted web accessibility, web usability standards and multimedia design standards Research and analysis techniques College organization, goals and objectives Strategic planning process Experience with consumer marketing strategy, strategic advertising, and branding Skills Excellent interpersonal skills to resolve complaints, serve as a liaison between multiple entities and speak/present in public Expertise in journalistic writing styles Manage personnel resources through motivating, training, developing, and directing people as they work Demonstrated organizational and project management skills in handling and directing multiple and complex assignments and projects Plan, implement and monitor budgets in an educational environment Abilities Write news releases, articles, announcements, talking points, presentations and other marketing/public relations materials Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and implement programs/initiatives Present a positive image of the College in the broader community Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external constituencies in a highly professional manner, including articulating the College s message with clarity and enthusiasm while establishing cooperative working relationships Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and student population, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities, and socioeconomic levels Required license or certification: None
