1 Team Leader Division / Function: NAS Reports to : Service (Registered) Manager Job summary: Why The people we work with want to be supported to do the things they want to do and to live the lives they choose. This role provides highly skilled support to help achieve this. This role also provides mentoring, development and management of support team members and oversees the smooth running of a specific work area and supports the strategic management of the service. This could either be in an NAS registered home, a supported living scheme, day opportunities, in the community or an education or employment setting.

2 Principal accountabilities What People We Support Oversee and influence a responsive support service to people with autism. Ensure that support is provided in an effective, efficient and sustainable way resulting in outcomes in line with individuals support plans. Monitor the development and regular review of person-centred support planning, including assessment of personal risk, ensuring support is adapted in line with changing needs. Oversee the regular review of risk assessments, according to NAS policy and maintain up-to-date training in this area. Ensure people using the service are involved in selecting and recruiting their own support team. Play a leading role in the development and maintenance of excellent relationships relations with people we support and their relatives and advocates. Facilitate effective working relationships with other agencies who are involved in the lives of the people we support. Listen directly to the views, ideas and concerns of the people we support both individually and through the local Forum. Ensure regular feedback of service delivery is offered in an accessible format for everyone we support. Ensure strategic planning of person-centred reviews and regular monitoring of outcomes important to the people we support. Ensure the effective planning of events important to the people we support, overseeing the quality of all aspects of planning e.g. finance, risk, logistics. Monitor and maintain effective systems and procedures to promote the safety, dignity and well-being of people we support at all times. Performance and Financial Management Responsibilities Provide mentoring, support and plan the development and management of support staff. Tasks may include writing and updating team rosters, monitoring and observing performance, overseeing staff training. Actively participate in the planning cycle, specifying ongoing improvements and any required developments to be achieved in the year, owned by the people receiving the service (or advocates/relatives) and by the teams delivering them, in line with the NAS s strategy objectives. Oversee and ensure effective staff performance management in line with NAS s policy and procedures for all senior support and support staff (recruitment, probation, supervision, appraisal, learning & development, conduct, attendance etc). Ensure that staff have access to appropriate learning and development opportunities that ensure excellent support to individuals in line with support agreements and legal and regulatory compliance. Through mentoring and reflective learning ensure that employees are able to apply experience and learning in their everyday work. Ensure all staff are informed about and work within NAS s Policies and Procedures and are fully up to date with internal communications both in the Area and Organisation wide. Ensure that all expenditure is within the agreed costings in conjunction with the annual budget. Monitor and audit financial transactions within service to ensure compliance and accuracy and report any discrepancies. You may also have responsibility for banking transactions and petty cash.

3 To have overall responsibility for a specific work area and to deputise for the service (Registered) manager in their absence. External Facing Responsibilities Maintain working relationships with care managers, other representatives of purchasers including families of people we support. In Relation to the Communities that people we support live in Ensure that people we support have access to mainstream agencies and amenities in their communities. Actively support the people we work with to experience life opportunities which promote the maximising potential and fulfilling their dreams. Enable community presence and participation as desired by the individual being supported. To support the development of links with Community Associations, Community Members and other organisations in order to enhance the inclusion of people with autism in the community. Training and Development Commit to undertake training in autism and all training relevant to the post. Practical demonstration on an ongoing basis of reflective learning, blended learning and any other training requirements for the role both statutory and in-service requirements. Actively contribute and maximize the supervision, appraisal and personal development experience. To maintain Continuous Personal Development in line with statutory registration requirements and internal CPD and in leadership and management skills. Commit to mentoring and developing team members. To facilitate effective team work promoting a positive and learning culture within the work place. To contribute to strategic service development in line with the corporate vision and values. Ensure autism knowledge and best practice is embedded throughout the Team. To facilitate the development and training of staff in topics/areas allocated by the service manager. To ensure that staff are up-to-date in mandatory training and to provide opportunities for further development. Quality: To understand the role of the relevant care regulatory body (CQC) and the statutory standards required for the work setting and to support meeting all required standards in accordance with legislative requirements. Maintain an overall awareness of current issues and developments in the field of autism. Comply with safeguarding requirements, including leading notifications to relevant bodies if required. 4 To co-operate with the NAS as far as is necessary to enable them to carry out their legal duty. I look for new developments and keep up to date with issues which impact my work. I interpret, distil and disseminate information, in and outside the NAS, for the benefit of people with autism and other stakeholders. I manage and protect others personal information professionally I develop people s performance I allocate work, agree objectives and delegate as appropriate. I understand and consistently apply performance management processes and evaluate outcomes. I am not afraid to tackle difficult issues with people/performance. I give clear feedback and understand when and how to tell people what they need to do. I maximise individuals performance by coaching and supporting them to develop. I adapt to changing priorities I adopt a flexible, proactive approach to get the job done. I am responsive to change and recognise when tasks are urgent and/or important, taking appropriate action. Varied including shift and sleep in duties as required. Time will be allocated for administrative duties in line with service needs.
