5 Welcome Dear Applicant Thank you for your interest in the position of Director of Care and Support at The Barnet Group. Reporting to me, the role will lead on delivering our Care and Support Business. This is a new post, which reflects the recognition that this is a core business for us and one where we believe we can grow and develop the business. We are a unique organisation, a Local Authority Trading Company with an ALMO and a social care arm with care and support functions spreading across both organisations. This places us in an excellent position exploit opportunities for new business as well as delivering core services on behalf of the council. Barnet Homes as a brand is well known in the local community and ALMO sector but one of our key PR projects is to build brand recognition for The Barnet Group and Your Choice Barnet. We have been undertaking a series of savings in Your Choice to make us more efficient so that we are better able to deal with the cost reductions facing Local Authorities and hope to complete this programme in this financial year having targeted a saving of 1million. Maintaining good relations with our local council is vital to the success of the company and this role will play a key part in ensuring this continues and grows stronger through times of change. As a company we are not content to stand still and have an active new business approach and this role would work closely on marketing campaigns. We have recently been successful in winning a contract to provide a range of early intervention and prevention work for young people across the borough and have just got the green light to begin development of the first new council homes in the borough in 20 years. Our Care and Support division has over 250 staff and provides a wide range of services including support for learning disabilities, physical and sensory impairments, autism and profound and complex learning and physical disabilities. These services, along with our Sheltered Housing, floating support and ASSIST telecare services have an excellent reputation and make us very proud. My management style is to empower the Directors that work for me. I believe that we have an excellent Executive team who work both individually and together to deliver a high level of service. We believe we are making a real difference in the Borough and if you want to join us you will become part of a successful team who really enjoy what they do. As a place to work, I can recommend Whetstone as it has lots of cafes, coffee shops and a Waitrose. It is on the northern line and you ll always get a seat on the way home. There is plenty of parking at Barnet House and we are only about 20 minutes drive from either the M25 or M1. Best wishes, Tracey Lees Chief Executive November 2013 Page 5 of 16
