QWE Workshop in ICWE 2010 Vienna, Austria Towards Support Processes for Web Projects Pablo Becker and Luis Olsina GIDIS_Web, Facultad de Ingeniería, Universidad Nacional de La Pampa General Pico, La Pampa, Argentina [beckerp beckerp, ing.unlpam.edu.ar ar 2010
Agenda Motivation Integrated M&E Strategy C-INCAMI Framework M&E Process Methods and Tools M&E Process: An Example Final Remarks
Motivation o In the Software/Web Engineering discipline different types of Processes are identified, e.g.: i) Engineering Processes ii) Support Processes iii) Management Processes
Motivation Process Areas / Categories as for CMMI empower Process Management Organizational a a Process Definition Organizational Training Organizational Process Performance analyze Project Management Project Planning Project Monitoring and Control Risk Management Quantitative Project Management.. standardize processes analyze Support Process and Product Quality Assurance Measurement and Analysis Decision Analysis and Resolution Causal Analysis and Resolution Engineering Requirements Development Requirements Management Technical Solution V&V employ measure & assist
Motivation o Data, if information, i and knowledge are valuable assets for better organizational decision making. Data, information coming from M&E To Measurement, Evaluation & Analysis processes for QA, an integrated M&E strategy is necessary. To assure repeatability and consistency of results among projects, we argue the following three aspects of a M&E strategy should considered at once: ameasurement and evaluation process aconceptual framework that relies on an a conceptual base such as an ontology evaluation methods and tools instantiated from both the framework and process.
Motivation o In previous works, we have built: a framework called C-INCAMI (Contextual-Information Need, Concept model, dl Attribute, Metric and Id Indicator), ) based on a metrics and indicators ontology; and thewebqem (Web Quality Evaluation Methodology) methodand its associated tool (C-INCAMI Tool) In this work, wespecify, in anexplicit i and formal way, the M&E process, based on: the terminology used in the ontology and the C-INCAMI components, and the WebQEM underlying activities ISOprocesses.
Motivation o Some related works (stressing the process aspect): SQuaRE (Software product Quality Requirements and Evaluation) ISO 15939: Software Measurement Process ISO : 5: Process for evaluators CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) Measurement and Analysis PA Decision Analysis and Resolution PA GQM (Goal Question Metric) FMESP (Framework for the Modeling and Evaluation of Software Processes)
Agenda Motivation Integrated M&E Strategy C-INCAMI Framework M&E Process Methods and Tools M&E Process: An Example Final Remarks
C-INCAMI Framework C-INCAMI provides a domain (ontological) model defining all the concepts and relationships needed to design and implement M&E processes. The C-INCAMI framework is structured in six components (packages), namely: 1. M&E project definition 2. Nonfunctional requirements specification 3. Context specification 4. Measurement design and implementation 5. Evaluation design and implementation 6. Analysis and recommendation specification
C-INCAMI Framework Some concepts and relationships for the Nonfunctional requirements specification, Context specification, and Measurement design and implementation components
Agenda Motivation Integrated M&E Strategy C-INCAMI Framework M&E Process Methods and Tools M&E Process: An Example Final Remarks
M&E Process A process prescribes (or informs) a set of phases and activities, inputs and outputs, roles, among other concerns, in order to foster repeatability and reproducibility. Given the ih inherent complexity of the process domain, a process can be modeled taking into account different views, namely: Functional Behavioral Informational Organizational
M&E Process Taking into account the C-INCAMI framework and to some extent the ISO standards for M&E, our integrated process proposal embraces the following main (core) activities: Dfi Define Nonfunctional lrequirements Design the Measurement Design the Evaluation Implement the Measurement Implement the Evaluation Analyze and Recommend
M&E Process: Overview
Agenda Motivation Integrated M&E Strategy C-INCAMI Framework M&E Process Methods and Tools M&E Process: An Example Final Remarks
Methods and Tools WebQEM C-INCAMI Tool
Agenda Motivation Integrated M&E Strategy C-INCAMI Framework M&E Process Methods and Tools M&E Process: An Example Final Remarks
M&E Process: An Example Example based on a case study E-bookstore WebApp: Cúspide Entity: Cuspide.com shopping cart Improve the external quality using WMR (Web bmdl Model Refactoring) and evaluating its impact in the entity characteristics ti and attributes: t Usability Content
Define NFR It implies 3 sub-activities: Establish the Information Need Specify the Context Select a Concept Model
NFR: Information Need Define Non-Functional Requirements: q Establish the Information Need Specify the Context Select a Concept Model
NFR: Information Need Define Non-Functional Requirements: Establish the Information Need Specify the Context Select a Concept Model improve final user Web Application Cuspide.com shopping cart External Quality
NFR: Context Define Non-Functional Requirements: Establish the Information Need Specify the Context, which represents the relevant state of the situation of the entity to be assessed with regard to the information need Select a Concept Model 1) lifecycle type used 2) technique type used to make de changes 1) lifecycle type = Agile Methodology 2) technique type = WMR
NFR: Concept Model Define Non-Functional Requirements: Establish the Information Need Specify the Context Select a Concept Model External Quality Model (ISO 9126) 1. Functionality 1.1 Suitability 1.2 Accuracy Usability 2.1 Understandability 2.2 Learnability 2.3 Operability 3. Reliability 3.1 Fault Tolerance Usability 1.11 Understandability d Content Quality 2.1 Content Suitability Basic Information Coverage Line item information completeness Product description appropiateness Coverage of other related information Return policy information completeness
Design the Measurement It implies 2 sub-activities: Establish Entity Assign one Metric to each Attribute Line item Information completeness Degree of completeness to the line item information
Agenda Motivation Integrated M&E Strategy C-INCAMI Framework M&E Process Methods and Tools M&E Process: An Example Final Remarks
Final Remarks The modeling of these processes contributes to: facilitating the understanding and communication among stakeholders; integrating and formalizing different activities that are it interrelated ltdas nonfunctional requirements specification, context specification, M&E design, analysis and recommendation; reusing the C-INCAMI ontological base easing understandability and interoperability; allowing the instantiation of methods and tools (like WebQEM and C-INCAMI Tool); and fostering the integration with other processes such as testing and quality assurance.
