1 UN VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT GMBR Community change Management Specialist The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.in most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities.in all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UN Volunteers even more rewarding and productive. The Gambia is situated at the tip of the West African coast and has a total surface area of approximately 10,360 square kilometres. Apart from the 48 km stretch at the Atlantic Ocean, The Gambia is landlocked by Senegal. The climate consists of a tropical hot rainy season from July to September and a cooler dry season from October to June. The Gambia has a total population of 1.8 million. English is the official language. Mandinka and Wolof are the main local languages most widely used in the country. The Gambia is relatively peaceful and the people are warm and friendly. Precautions should nevertheless be taken to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Free-lance tourist guides (locally known as bumsters) are common in tourist areas especially in hotels. 2 As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. In Gambia, national volunteers receive a monthly living allowance of 13520GMB and have a 100%medical coverage for them and their dependents. Sustainable Development Goals Task description 10. Reduced Inequalities Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Representative or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Community change management specialist will: Provide analytical and coordination support to the three country office program priorities (Integrated Chlid Case Management (ICCM), Early Child Development (ECD) and Case management under the overall umbrella of the NSA keno Initiative Ensure that country programmes priorities through the NSA Kenno are strengthened by knowledge management through data collection and analysis, complete and accurate reporting as well as other corporate-level databases; participate in information exchange through donor and media visits as well as in the development of training and orientation material. Support the planning and monitoring to improve programme performance; Help coordinate workshops, field visits and meetings bringing together relevant government, departments and international agencies to identify strategic gaps in existing strategies, policies, action plan and areas for further development, action and/or coordination. Support the integration of gender consideration into strategies and action plan Advise on appropriate monitoring and evaluation indicators and frameworks to track accomplishments and effectiveness; Help develop funding proposals, project reports, case studies, and other information sharing materials Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day)- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country- Provide annual and end of assignment reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities using UNV s Volunteer Reporting Application- 1 Feb 2019 Page 2 of 7

3 Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Results/Expected Outputs Technical and coordination support provided to the initiative and the 3 program priorities related; Improved and integrated cross-government and inter-agency strategies management and plan to drive change within community and the duty bearers; Development and proposal of a mechanism to keep updating a database of the network and mapping of structure related for this initiative; Document relevant best-practices and develop and implement an investment case for the 3 program priorities to feed the mid-year review of the CPD; Deliver take stock report in quarterly base which will include an overview of the initiative work achievements, challenges and way forward Expanded range of communication materials on NSA Kenno in close collaboration within UNICEF office The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counter-parts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development dur-ing the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed Qualifications/Requirements Required Degree Level Education - Additional Comments Required experience Experience Remark Master degree or equivalent 48 months 4 years relevant experience in areas such as social protection, C4D and knowledge management or 1 Feb 2019 Page 3 of 7

However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. Travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event the duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly basis will be provided. 6 - Introductory briefings about the organisation and office-related context including security, emergency procedures, good cultural practice and orientation to the local environment; - Support with arrival administration including setting-up of bank accounts, residence permit applications and completion of other official processes as required by the host government or host entity; - Structured guidance, mentoring and coaching by a supervisor including a clear workplan and performance appraisal; - Access to office space, equipment, IT support and any other systems and tools required to complete the objectives of the assignment including a host entity address; - Access to shared host entity corporate knowledge, training and learning; - Inclusion of the volunteer in emergency procedures such as evacuations; - Leave management; - DSA for official travel, when applicable; - All changes in the Description of Assignment occurring between recruitment and arrival or during the assignment need to be formalized with the United Nations Volunteer Programme.
