2 SELECTION CRITERIA: Applicants should specifically address each of the selection criteria, as short listing and selection will be based upon these selection criteria. Essential SC1 SC2 SC3 SC4 SC5 SC6 SC7 SC8 AHSCP recognised Qualification in Surveying (minimum H2) and a minimum of 2 years of practical experience in Hydrography with a significant proportion of this experience in Coastal Zone Hydrography. Demonstrated ability to effectively conduct and manage Class A Hydrographic Projects Demonstrated sound knowledge of Class A hydrographic surveying and drafting techniques, technology and standards Demonstrated sound knowledge of the functions and needs of pilotage and navigation aids. Demonstrated sound level of analytical, evaluation, risk management and problem-solving skills. Substantial level of oral and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Computing skills and experience suitable to operate hydrographic survey equipment, undertake data analysis and produce accurate sounding charts to Survey Class A. Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety including hazard and risk management together with Environmental Acts and Regulations and Quality Systems. 3 POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory The incumbent will be an AHSCP Certified Practitioner in Hydrography Level 2 or above. Familiarity with and the ability to utilise the technical hydrographic equipment provided by POTL, which includes:- R2Sonic 2022 MBES, Applanix Wavemaster POSMV and associated software systems RTK GNSS Systems Navisound 210 & 420DF SBES Topcon total station Two dedicated survey vessels All employees have an obligation to comply with the Workplace Health and Safety Act, POTL s Workplace Health and Safety policies, procedures and instructions to ensure a safe workplace. Possession of a current Queensland Open Driver s Licence. Desirable A Restricted Coxswains Certificate of Competency and a Restricted Operators Certificate of Proficiency in Radio telecommunications will be well regarded. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: Reporting to the Manager Engineering, the primary function of the Hydrographic Surveyor is to undertake Hydrographic Surveys of the Harbour, Channels and other Port areas using the Port of Townsville Limited (POTL) multibeam echo sounder (MBES) and single-beam echosounder (SBES) systems to contribute to the maintenance of accurate hydrographic data, sounding charts and dredging information. Ports Australia Class A Hydrographic Surveys are required on a Quarterly and as required basis during dredging and activities that require clearance surveys. For these surveys, POTL will provide an Australian Hydrographic Certification Panel (AHSCP) Level 1 Hydrographic Surveyor to provide supervision and compliance should the successful candidate not have AHSCP Level 1 accreditation. The incumbent also co-ordinates hydrographic survey, bed levelling and POTL maintenance dredging activities leading to depth declarations by the Regional Harbour Master and provides land-based survey support to Engineering projects. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Hydrographic Surveyor is responsible for the following:- Key Responsibilities Accountable for provision and accuracy of hydrographic surveys by vessels and operating position fixing and sounding equipment to gather hydrographic data. Produce accurate sounding charts of the various Port areas for POTL, the Regional Harbour Master and Port users. Performance Standards/Results Accuracy of survey data verified Accurate sounding charts to Survey Class A provided to RHM and Port users Page 3 of 6

4 Monitor and calculate depth changes associated with dredging activities to provide information relating to dredging progress and effectiveness. Monitor and calculate depth changes associated with natural siltation events. Monitor dredging logs and calculate dredging quantity to monitor contractor performance relative to agreements. Provide supervision, maintenance, analysis and reporting of data from tide gauges. Co-ordinate POTL s dredging and drag beam operations. Provide feedback to management on the latest advancements and technology in the field of hydrographic surveying. Provide the Engineering Office with various survey support services by undertaking projects as assigned. Supervise Workplace Health and Safety requirements when conducting surveying operations, in accordance with POTL s policies and Workplace Health and Safety Act. Plan day to day work, adopt effective and efficient work methods, identify potential or existing hazards and associated risks and take measures to ensure these don t cause health and safety issues or cause damage to the environment. Promote, educate and ensure quality processes and POTL s Business Management System is implemented, maintained and complied with. Take action where non-conformances occur, together with identifying, recording and resolving problem areas. Participate in all/any training nominated by POTL in a manner that will ensure that the best value is gained from the training activity. Perform other duties as allocated by the Manager Engineering. Depth changes associated with dredging monitored and recorded Depth changes from siltation monitored and recorded Dredge logs monitored and quantities verified Tide gauge maintained and data analysed and reported Dredging and drag beam operations coordinated and monitored Feedback provided to management Support provided for Engineering projects as requested WH&SW requirements complied with during survey operations Work planning completed and executed without WH&S incidents Quality processes practiced and promoted amongst allocated staff Satisfactory participation in and completion of training activities Duties are carried out effectively, and in a timely manner. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Infrequent manual handling including bending and high reaching, ladder climbing, and working in positions with difficult access, extended periods of standing and walking on concrete floors and uneven surfaces and periods of working in unshaded, non-air-conditioned work spaces Page 4 of 6
