1 ENGAGEMENT & MEDIA ASSISTANT THE OFFICE OF THE DURHAM POLICE, CRIME AND VICTIMS COMMISSIONER (ODPCVC) (REF. 187/16) Location: Salary: Hours: Job type: Based at The Office of the Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner (ODPCVC) Police HQ, Aykley Heads 17,943-19,122 per annum 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working 8am to 5pm. The Flexible working hours scheme is applicable, although it is acknowledged that the successful candidate will be required to be in the office from 8am in order to fulfil the essential requirements of the role. In this role you will work to support an effective engagement and consultation function for the PCVC. You will also assist in the production of a wide range of high quality communications materials to support the PCVC s objectives, making full use of digital opportunities to engage and communicate with communities & partners. The post will have a formal reporting line to the Policy and Delivery Officer, and will take direction from that post holder, and from the Media and Communications Officer 2

3 MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES 1. To support the organisation and facilitation of a range of proactive and reactive engagement products and events for the PCVC. These include community days, consultation activities and large scale public events. 2. Analyse information and responses from disparate sources relating to consultation and engagement, and to draw initial conclusions. 3. To update the PCC s website on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the provision of high quality, accurate and up to date information, and compliance with statutory obligations 4. To be responsible for making effective use of and posting material across all ODPCVC social media channels in line with the communications strategy and action plan, taking advice from the Media and Communications Officer and others. 5. To monitor local, regional and national press/media coverage about PCVC, on a daily basis, and to circulate relevant material to the ODPCVC team. 6. To produce monthly media and engagement reports for the PCVC 7. To ensure media protocols and standards are understood and adhered to by staff, so that when others post material on the website or social media it is to a consistent standard. 8. To assist the Media and Communications Officer in the production of photos, videos and other digital communications, to a high standard. 9. To assist with the production and distribution of press releases, articles and marketing materials. 10. To represent the PCVC and the OPCVC at a range of internal and external meetings and events. 11. To undertake any other tasks, duties or projects that may arise from time to time which are commensurate with the general level of this post, as directed. Flexible working arrangements will apply, although the post holder will be expected to be in the office from 8.00 hrs in the morning to review the morning s news (point 5 of the job description). The duties and responsibilities outlined above cannot encompass or define all tasks which may be required of the post holder. SALARY CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT ENGAGEMENT & MEDIA ASSISTANT Annual salary will be based on Durham Scale 3 of the Police Staff Council:- 17,943 18,327 18,720 19, PENSION New employees are required to choose a pension arrangement to which they will contribute on taking up appointment with the Office of the Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner. The Local Government Pension Scheme. The State Earnings Related Pension Scheme. A Personal Pension arrangement. New employees will be automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme. The successful applicant will have the right to opt out of the Pension Scheme once they have commenced employment 3. SICKNESS DECLARATION & MEDICAL SCREENING/ EXAMINATION 6

7 This appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment medical screening. During these pre-employment checks the Constabulary requests sickness details from your previous employer(s). Following screening the successful candidate may be required to attend for a medical appointment. 4. ANNUAL LEAVE Annual leave will be calculated on a pro-rata basis according to the number of hours worked per week. Annual leave for a full time employee (37 hours per week) will be a minimum of 26 days rising to a maximum of 31 days after 5 years continuous service. The annual leave year runs from 1 st January to 31 st December and those who commence employment during the year will be entitled to a proportion of the annual leave entitlement. 5. PERIOD OF NOTICE The appointment will be terminable by 6 weeks notice in writing on either side, subject to the provisions of the Employment Rights Act, PROBATIONARY PERIOD Substantive appointment is subject to a Probationary Period of 6 months. At the end of the Probationary Period, subject to satisfactory report, you will be transferred to the established staff. 7. TRAINING The Office of the Police Crime and Victims Commissioner has a positive policy towards identifying and meeting the training needs of all of its staff and it is a condition of employment that staff are prepared to participate in any training courses which are felt to be appropriate to their needs. Most training needs will be met within the organisation, but he/she may be required to attend job related short courses. 8. ACCOMMODATION / LOCATION OF POST Based at The Office of the Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner (ODPCVC) at Police HQ, Aykley Heads. This location will be your normal place of work for the purpose of excess mileage or other such claims. However, the Office of the Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner reserves the right to require you, on a temporary basis, to carry out any other duties or move to any other post appropriate to your grade, at any location within County Durham and Darlington as business requirements indicate. If you are required to move on a permanent basis, you will be required to do so only after a reasonable period of consultation and notice, which will take into account your reasonable personal requirements. Any additional reasonable travelling expenses which may incur as a result of any change of your place of work will be met by Durham Police and Crime Commissioner as per current policy. 7

ADDITIONAL BUSINESS OR EMPLOYMENT Employees must devote their whole-time service to the work of the Authority and must not engage in any other business or take up any other employment without the written consent of the Chief Of Staff to the ODPCVC. 16.
