Job description Post title Department/Division Faculty Grade/salary Hours of work Period of appointment Responsible to Responsible for Campus Software Engineer Immubiology / DIIID FoLSM Grade 7, 40,523-51,260 per annum Full time Fixed term contract for 13 months Professor Adrian Hayday N/A EBI, Hinxton, Cambridgeshire Role purpose This post is part of The Infection, Immunity, Immuphetyping (3i) consortium ( a large Wellcome Trust funded project led by King s College London and the Wellcome trust Sanger Institute, involving collaboration between partners at EMBL-EBI, Imperial College, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, and Manchester. The 3i consortium has carried out an in-depth immulogical phetyping of over 500 kckout mouse lines generated by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and is w conducting research on selected kckout lines and on the dataset generated (>1,000,000 data points). We are seeking a software engineer to create a rich archive of 3i consortium data for the scientific community. The primary aim is to implement a data sustainability plan by migrating, indexing, integrating and disseminating immuphetype 3i data including 15,000 biological images. The post holder will work closely with 3i and IMPC developers as well as outside users to extend and improve the 3i platform for maximal impact and long-term sustainability. The appointment will be via King s but the post-holder will be based at EMBL-EBI in Hinxton near Cambridge, to allow close interaction with the IMPC/EBI mouse informatics team. 2 Role profile Key objectives: Lead the design and execution of a long-term data sustainability plan for the 3i consortium in close collaboration with the EBI mouse informatics group Migrate complex phetype data including bioimaging data into existing data resources Collaborate with IMPC developers on data integration, dissemination and visualisation ( Communication and networking: Assume the role of one of the main communicators between EBI and 3i, reporting progress, managing expectations and balancing the requirements of all partners Networking with 3i and IMPC partners are an integral and important part of the job. Providing detailed documentation of developed software is critical (To present regular progress reports to the members of the 3i consortium) Decision making, planning and problem solving: Prioritize projects and tasks in a fast-moving and agile development environment to reach all objectives in a timely manner Take an active part in collaborative decision making with 3i and IMPC colleagues. To troubleshoot problems with software development as and when they occur. Analysis and research: Conduct complex analysis and research to contribute to peer-reviewed manuscripts as required Learn how to use OMERO and other imaging platform techlogies Learn semantic indexing techlogies Team work, teaching and learning support: Attend and contribute to 3i consortium meetings To provide ongoing support to solve technical problems. 6 Summary of Terms and Conditions of Service This appointment is made under the King s College London Terms and Conditions of Service for Research staff a copy of which is available from the Recruitment Team upon request. Probation 6 months Annual leave 27 working days per annum pro rata (please te the annual leave year runs from January-December) bank holidays and customary closure days in are in addition to the annual leave entitlement. Staff receive four additional customary closure days in December. Notification as to how these days are taken is circulated at the start of the academic year. Superannuation This appointment is superannuable under the USS In accordance with recent legislation, we automatically enrols our staff in a pension scheme if they meet certain age and earning criteria. This is kwn as auto-enrolment. The university collects pension contributions via a salary sacrifice method called PensionsPlus. These deductions are made before the calculation of tax and national insurance is calculated; therefore reducing the amount you pay. Staff already superannuated under the NHS Superannuation Scheme may opt to remain in that scheme provided an application to do so is received by the NHS scheme trustees within three months of appointment to King s College London.
