6 Ventura Port District Classification Specification Last Reviewed: January 2019 JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN FLSA: Hourly Non-Exempt JOB SCOPE: Under general supervision, responsible for cleaning and performing maintenance and minor repair in the public areas, Ventura Harbor Village, and other buildings controlled by the Ventura Port District, and interacts with the public in a positive manner while performing the above duties; performs related duties as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor. Incumbents do not routinely exercise supervision. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) CLEANING Inspects and cleans all public restrooms at Harbor Village, the Port District building, launch ramp and South Beach. Disinfect and sanitizes above-mentioned restrooms. Stocks and refills all janitorial supplies in restrooms. Picks up trash in parking lots, along sidewalks and within the Port District controlled buildings. Empties trash cans and installs liners. Steam cleans sidewalks and other areas. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR Maintains and repairs doors, drinking fountains, gates and other such items. Unplugs and repairs toilets and urinals. Reports items that need repair that are beyond the expectations of this position. PUBLIC INTERACTIONS Frequently assists the Marketing Department by setting up tables, stages, EZ-ups, and electrical connections in conjunction with events and music. Handles the public and tenants reports in a positive and efficient manner. Answers public inquiries or directs them to the proper person with a friendly and helpful demeanor. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Class C drivers license and insurable by District insurance. PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The person in this position works primarily in shop and outdoors environment. Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven, and slippery surfaces; reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when performing work. The ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 70 pounds or more is also required. The employee wears latex gloves, eyewear and other personal protective gear. The incumbent may use cleaning chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust, and air contaminants. The incumbent is also required to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment.
