3 What is the purpose of strategic planning? Strategic planning is more than good business. It s good practice. If done correctly, if has the power to transform today s vision into tomorrow s realities. Strategic Planning helps your local government realize its long-term vision by setting up goals and objectives in a systematic, incremental manner. Simply put, it makes you take a look at what s going on today, where you want to be tomorrow and which steps you will need to take it there. - Thomas DiNapoli, Local Government Management Guide 3

7 Our Vision A community of people, permanent and seasonal, rural and urban living in harmony and contributing to keeping Ramara as a country setting. We shall have regard for: our natural heritage including our beaches, lakes, waterways, wetlands, and woodlands; our cultural heritage; our natural resources including aggregate, agricultural, recreation and water; and our lifestyle including rural, settlement and shoreline communities and employment areas, all of which are worthy of preservation and conservation. 7

8 Our Mission Ramara Council will provide guidance through its Official Plan, policies, budget process and service delivery to assist and help direct all stakeholders in a way that the community may achieve this Vision by working cooperatively. Our Vision will remain foremost in our minds as we provide services for our community and plan for growth. 8

12 Progress to date and stakeholder engagement A thorough review of relevant documents and resources has been conducted An environmental scan of issues relevant to the Township of Ramara has been conducted Draft versions of both of these documents will be shared with the Township for review and some of the key highlights will be shared today An online survey for ratepayers/business owners/community organizations is ready for approval and subsequent distribution Key informant interviews (10-15) will be conducted over the next two weeks 12
