3 West Exe Technology College / Learning Mentor Job Description To support the development, co-ordination and delivery of all college systems and procedures, linked to student maximising achievement strategies. Job Title Learning Mentor Job Evaluation Scale D (Job No 718) This job description is not a comprehensive definition of the post. Discussions will take place on a regular basis to clarify individual responsibilities within the general framework and character of the post as identified below. The holder is expected to carry out the professional duties of the post as circumstances may require, under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher. Responsible to Maximising Achievement Team Manager Senior Manager Job Purpose To provide support for individuals or small groups in a variety of contexts under the supervision of the Maximising Achievement Team Manager. To assist in the assessment of individual needs to maximise achievement. To liaise with parents and other interested parties as and when required under the supervision of the Maximising Achievement Team Manager. Units of Responsibility To prepare materials and deliver learning and support programmes To implement literacy and numeracy programmes To assist with the planning cycle To undertake general clerical/administrative support associated with the maximising achievement programme To stimulate learning in groups or one-to-one situations to meet various identified needs To coordinate the recruitment of students to the music school, including the organisation of the timetables, liaising with students on timings and managing the payment process To attend appropriate professional learning sessions To attend the Staff Forum

These are set in discussion with your line manager. Hours of Work (30 minutes for lunch) Monday to Thursday, 3 pm finish on Friday (6 hours per day Mon-Thurs 5hrs 40 mins on Fridays) 1157 Attendance at 6 Staff Forum meetings (extend to 4.20) 6 TOTAL (hours per annum) 1163

Attributes Description Essential Desirable Qualifications Recognised degree or equivalent Obtained an A grade qualification in GCSE English and Mathematics or equivalent Numeracy/literacy skills at least equivalent to Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework Willingness to participate in other development and training opportunities Skills and The ability to develop, co-ordinate and deliver learning programmes across the Knowledge range of students, up to an including GCSE English and Maths An up-to-date understanding of current developments and initiatives Ability to inspire and motivate students A good knowledge of ICT and its application Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities Excellent communication skills, both oral and written The ability to gain the confidence and respect of students, staff, parents and external organisations Other A commitment to equal opportunities Maintains high professional standards Commitment to being involved in the wider life of the College through participation in extra-curricular activities. NOTE: As this post meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, all applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a criminal record check from the Criminal Records Bureau before the appointment is confirmed. However, the following guidelines form a basis for claiming reasonable expenses. Overseas interviewees may only claim UK based expenses All overnight accommodation should be cleared in advance It is assumed that the cheapest form of travel is chosen by interviewees or if alternative travel arrangements are made, only the lower cost will be claimed Subsistence other than that linked with overnight stays will only be paid if start or end of journey times are excessively beyond the normal working day Expenses will only be paid against receipts or tickets showing expenditure Expenses will not be paid to candidates who withdraw or refuse the offer of employment on grounds which in the opinion of the selection panel are inadequate Relocation expenses are not available Salary All final decisions relating to the payment of expenses lie with the Headteacher All candidates invited for interview will be informed in writing of the proposed starting salary. This salary will be based upon the West Exe Technology College Policy which takes account of national guidelines.
